If you bought 3 or more bottles of each you’d have enough to supply pdhall for a month. But you’d have to up the quality. B-S NV (which I love, btw)??? To roll with the big dogs like pd, you have to upgrade to Krug! 😉

3x of each of the four 2021 Misc Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings.

I really like Grant’s style — Napa producer, but his wines are never over the top in any way and have an incredible expression of terroir. Price is up slightly, to $125/bottle, but these wines would easily compete with Macdonald Cabernet Sauvignon, or the Bond lineup. Just sensational wines and at a fair price, too.

Ironic to be buying while still in dry January, but this is one mailing list I will never drop from.

Picked up half a dozen bottles of 2018 Delmas SJR Vineyard Syrah in Vancouver for $40 ea where this wine sells here--IF you can find it, and you probably can't--for $75 or more. Haven't had this vintage but prior Delmas syrahs were absolutely ethereal. Not a quality I usually look for in syrah but the 2016 Delmas was swoon-worthy.

There is a network of people sharing tips, and in fact some of that happens right here! As for Grant, specifically, I learned of him through the one store that retails his wines (DB Fine Wines in New Caanan, CT). Old business partner of Grant's who knows Napa super well. But I tend to buy directly from Grant because he prefer for him to get the full amount since he is, after all, selling these at a very low price for wines of this quality. So I buy through Aionaire in this case. I think this link will work for you:

PS: I don't have any relationship with Grant or that winery, and have never even met the guy... I'm not engaged in marketing for them, and am just sharing info. Eric allows that. He wouldn't be happy if I was somehow ITB and making money, or trying to sell wines from my cellar, or whatever.

How do these compare to, for example, Beta? Are the Misc. wines bolder, more "classic" Napa, or...?

If you search CT for tasting notes on prior vintages you’ll see mine, and maybe only mine. Then you can pull up my notes on Beta.

Numerically, my scores are similar. My favorite Beta wine tends to be Monticello, with some vintages (2017) being just off-scale stunners. I gave the 2017 Monticello 97+, and other vintages often were 95 or 96. Other Beta wines often come in around 94 for me, and Vare in particular is sometimes lower (Vare was sometimes too lean for my taste… Ketan says to give them more time). Misc is just a bit riper and I’ve often given bottles 95-96 pt scores.

So, same goals, if you want to put that way. But yes, often a tiny bit riper.

I haven’t tried the Misc Pinot Noir, by the way. Grant used to have a Misc Grenache that was excellent, but he no longer does it. A shame…

Ha... I should have thought to look at CT notes, but I guess laziness took over. Regardless, thanks for your thoughts. I've been buying Beta for a while now, so that's a good common benchmark. Off I go to read up on Misc.....

Hopefully not too much sediment. I hear those are tricky to decant.

Zalto Josephine No 3 glass. Just 1. Read so much about them and I was reluctant to buy one because of how fragile they are. I hope it arrives well.

love it. vintage is decent. it's been recently recorked and is ready to go for another 25 years. some sediment remains in the bottle but plans are in place to remove that.
