Hadn't been back home and to my wife since January 9. Sweetwater Brewery Second Helping India Pale Ale (brewed about 3 miles from our place) and brewed with juniper berries. Just the thing to scarf down 3 dozen oysters with, and (ahem) an order of Shrimp and Grits, a bowl of chili, a bowl of Lobster Bisque, and one of Fried Shrimp. My second drink was a Sweetwater Grass Monkey, which wasn't bad, but if I'd read their website description - "a hoppy wheat ale with lemongrass" - I wouldn't have gotten it.

Going to dinner tonight with friends to Mr. Wok for some Peking Duck (among other items). Prepping with a Buty rose, and taking along a 2006 Pol Roger Brut and a 2014 Kutch Falstaff Pinot Noir. Rumor has it they will bring another champer, some rieslings and pinot blanc.

FFP was a glass of 2005 du Tertre left over from last night. Very tasty, positive evolution ahead.

Dog's Breath Antidote - mixed for Her Ladyship, with Citadelle French Gin, St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, Peppermint Schnapps, Creme de Violette, and Jasmine/Grapefruit Shrub.

The Little Corsican's Burro - Citadelle French Gin, Dolin Dry Vermouth, Patron Citronage Orange Liqueur, Jasmine/Grapefruit Shrub, and Fernet Branca.

Both original FFP concoctions. The second one, for me, is a play on a published cocktail called Napoleon's Market, and inspired by midpalate's Corsican FFP. No doubt these are both the first and second ever Corsican Friday First Pour posts...

Veleta Tempranillo, 2009, DOP Granada. A Berserker Day buy. The DOP is clearly better than the Nolados that did not enjoy that ranking. 2 Nolados, 2 DOP Tempranillo, 2 DOP Cab Sauv for <$90. Decent deal for this year but would not buy the Nolados again.

Not exactly St. Patrick's Day Eve/Day pour for many, but it will work for me.

Cheers!

Damn, Dennis.... I got a buzz just reading that. Cheers, Man.

Personally, nothing fancy - working near the north end of the Salton Sea, way down below sea level. Disappointing lack of sand in this area of the southern California desert, but plenty of dust, and it doesn't take much wind before it's getting in your eyes, ears, etc. Dry and dusty day in that kind of a week. Hole-in-the-wall Mexican food place has been a godsend to us, built right into the gas station next door. $4 for a bottle of beer grates on me a little, but what the hey - **** me it tasted good tonight, plain old Bud Light. Extra hot "mas, mas fuerte" chile verde burrito for me (chunks of marinated pork in it) and they cut up habañero peppers and add them if you really want the heat brought.

Last night was some Satisfaction Jacksin from Ale Asylum along with a grilled Panini while watching some NCAA basketball. Cleaning out all my old beer and making way for some new spring beers. Have a mixed case that i need to drink up before i purchase anything new.

For Dr. M, 2016 Buty Sémillon/Sauvignon/Muscadelle and my usual FFP, a Ketel One Martini on the rocks, two olives X2...

Ain’t life grand?

It was too dark for pictures, but we christened a septic tank - and I am being quite literal here - with Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Cuvee Cuis 1er Cru Brut Champagne. Subsequently enjoyed on our tailgate with chicken wings and cole slaw.

I was under the impression that beer was the traditional septic tank christening fluid - and seeing the pictures would be TMI, for sure.

Life’s not too bad, eh musedir?

FFP for us was a Burgans Albariño on our lanai on Sarasota. A bit cloudy in paradise tonight. But indeed, life is good.

Paired with smoked salmon this really sings.

Warramate 2015 PN to go with tuna and salmon (different fish preferences)

The first Warramate we've had since the acquisition by Yarra Yering. Will be interesting to see the stylistic effect

Indeed, life is good. Especially when one considers the alternative.

FFP on the third page? For shame!

Cross-posted from the martini thread:

It's been quite the week. FFP this week will likely be a Jensen's martini. SFP and TFP may be, as well.
