Epic evening at Hudson's on the Bend. The food was spectacular, I don't have the descriptors that do it justice. All of the wines showed very well, the 97 Flora Springs Triology really suprised me with its power and grace. The 74 Mondavi has a lot of life ahead of it. The 2003 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul also surprised me with its subtlety and balance, it vied for WOTN with the Mondavi. The 80's blind tasting starts in lan hour and a half, should be very interesting as I am bringing the thunder and I am pretty sure we will see a nice mix of Cabs and blends, hopefully with some surprises from other places thrown in.

YoDaddyO, thank you in advance for what is a going to be a very memorable weekend. Thank you especially for opening your family ranch to us. That is going to be a spectacular setting.

Big thank you to YoDaddyO and family for one heck of a great evening last night.  Amazingly hospitality, over the top wine line-up, spectacular setting, great people and fantastic food.  Cameron's serenading us in the bus on the way back, priceless

All i can say is ....Wow!

Ok...i'll say a little more...what a wonderful weekend experience and memory. I am truly thankful for everyone's great generosity with some amazing wines.

The company was great...the weather was simply wonderful...the wines were amazing and i didn't make any unintelligible speeches (at least as far as I know).

I wish i had had more time to spend with each of you as there wasn't a single conversation that wasn't pleasant and enjoyable.

I don't get to gather as often as i would like for these events but it was so fun and i'll definitely look forward to the opportunity to gather again.

CHEERS!

I will add my appreciation for the incredible job you did organizing the events Mike. Personally I wouldn't even have thought about ordering up the outstanding weather. Your father's place won't soon be forgotten either. What a wonderfull setting for Saturday night and your parents are outstanding hosts. I see where you get your skills.

Great food! Great wine! Great company!

Michael

I'll certainly echo everyone's comments! The weekend was definitely a great success! Thanks so much for organizing everything Mike (Hudson's on the Bend was wonderful), and, once again, thank your parents so much for providing the perfect venue for Saturday! While you may have missed my very sub-par vocal performance on the bus ride home, I promise I'll try to repeat it for you at the next offline!

Cameron,

Further offlines will not be complete without your crooning. BTW, could you post the names of all 13 wines from Saturday? I was starting my notes but can't remember a few of the names.

I have a feeling we'll be talking about this weekend for quite some time to come.

The food and wine both were absolutely amazing. Thanks to all for these fabulous wines.

DaddyO, well done, my friend. The meals were fantastic, to say the least. Thanks to you and your parents for opening your family's beautiful home to this crazy bunch.

The weekend was crazy and fun, then came the ride back to the hotel... Cameron must [attempt to] sing on all future offlines...

It was great seeing y'all again! Until next time...

That's what I'm after. I know several people took various shots with the cell cameras of everything from the ranch to the food to the wine and beyond.

As i eagerly await folks to post TN's on the wines from both evening i thought I would comment on my favorites...I confess to being distracted from taking any notes but tried my best to at least itemize in my mind the high impression wine.

Wow moment as if the wine and food were planned...

2005 Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée Laurence (mag.)

I believe that Michael (mjobtx) brought this one and it hit the table at the same time as the Sea Bass and Lobster Risotto...this was a wonderful experience.

First Night favorites

2005 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris Altenbourg Cuvée Laurence (magnum)
2008 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Westside Road Neighbors (RRV)
1995 Gaja Barbaresco Sori San Lorenzo

Second Night favorites

2003 Windy Oaks Henry's
2004 Torbreck Run Rig
2011 Torbreck Muscat The Bothie
1983 Raymond-Lafon
2009 Domaine de la Pertuisane Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Le Nain Violet
2003 pegau CdP cuvee reservee

Special DaddyO Award

2009 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge ...truly the best chardonnay I've ever had and i must also say that Jose (jar1) brought a top to bottom stellar group of wines.

I don't recall a single wine that didn't leave a favorable impression...the above just happened to stand out for various reasons. Most notably i was fascinated by the dominance of the whites (some dessert) and "non-bordeaux" wines relative to my palate.

This weekend has had a HUUGE impact on my purchase plans for the next year.

I want to thank everyone again and your generosity with your wines and the fun fellowship with your time. Let's do it again soon!

YoDaddyO,

Well said. What a couple nights. The across the board strength of the wines was down right impressive. Looking back now at the lists and listing my favorites by type I get

1996 Fleury Champagne Brut

2003 Jean-Claude Boisset Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques
2008 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot ( not sure 2008 is correct )

2005 Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris Altenbourg Cuvée Laurence
2009 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge

2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
1985 Dominus

1970 Château Suduiraut

Really is splitting hairs to come up with these. Most surprising wine was the
2007 Castleman Oakville Cabernet. Anyone who tried this two years ago really should find a way to have it again. It has come together to be a very very nice wine

I think it was 2004 and was my wine of the weekend. I have about a dozen others that would be tied for 2nd place and like others have said, there really wasn't a bad wine (other than "#10") all weekend.

I will put my full attention on this tomorrow. I have notes for the weekend plus the 60+ wines I tasted at an industry tasting yesterday. I am about to find out how Richard Jennings lives.
