For those that only know him from House, can I recommend the obscenely talented Hugh Laurie? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TniQraQd1TA is the edited highlights of a documentary that has run on PBS. I strongly recommend the album Let Them Talk on iTunes/wherever.

The Beatles recorded their last song: "I Me Mine" on this day in 1970.

Pink Floyd : Wish you were here

I have no idea why it has been so long since I have listened to this. An old friend.

I have been in an Andean mood lately, and have been listening to stuff such as this:

Kamaq

And I've found a stirring traditional Huastec song from Veracruz, Mexico:

El Zacamandu

I'm back to playing this great 1974 album.

What a lineup:

John Abercrombie – guitars
Michael Brecker – woodwinds
Randy Brecker – trumpet
Garnett Brown – trombone
Billy Cobham – drums, percussion, production, orchestrations
George Duke – keyboards
Lee Pastora – latin percussion
Ken Scott – production, recording and re-mix engineering
John Williams – acoustic & electric basses

You know anything that includes the Brecker Brothers is going to be good.

Ziggy Marley's latest, Rebellion Rises.

Sometime reggae lover. I really like this. May be it's in his DNA, but whatever...

Cheers!

I'd never ported this 1984 release to iTunes, so consequently hadn't listened in years.

Forgotten that Frank has a few 1950s inspired tracks on display, with loads of doo-wop going on.

Plus he closes the album with a high-speed cover version of the Allman Brothers "Whipping Post".

As with many of Frank's recordings, classify as NSFW.

Crowded House - always a favorite of mine in the spring. Glad they got back together to record some newer music.

Nose to the grindstone at work today so I'm rocking Thee Oh Sees Live in SF, they always seem to keep me on track, even more so now that they've gotten so motorik-influenced.

On Sirius XM Beatles channel (18) holiday "Magical History Tour", every Beatles home EMI studio recording 1962-1970 in chronological order of recording with just incredible historical commentary by Beatles historian Kevin Howlett.

This is off-the-hook good, and even if your SiriusXM radio is dormant you should be able to listen free this week.

Farewell, Leon Redbone, who died today at 69.

Saw him open-up for George Carlin in Houston, back in 1983.

We'll miss you, Leon.

Such a unique performer. We saw him in Atlanta at the Chastain Park Amphitheater in the late '70. RIP.

I just finished reading Bob Spitz's mammoth (850 pages in small font) biography of The Beatles, so of course I've been listening to a lot of them lately: Lady Madonna and You Never Give Me Your Money, over and over on Youtube.
