Spoke to the Vyrd Manager at GIII this morning and I wanted to provide an early season update on the Vyrd.

The vines are just wrapping up bloom now and the heat spike late last week caused just a small bit of shatter, but nothing to worry about. The big factor so far this season was the rain we did get in February came at the right time, as the soil was nice and moist when the vines woke up from their winter slumber.

The growth looks exceptional and he hesitated only slightly in saying that we may actually have 3 great growing seasons in a row. Of Course I told him that we dont discuss no-hitters in the middle of the game, so lets see what happens as we head into June and the heat comes.

If anyone else is interested in grabbing a case or two, we still have them available. BTW - we should start seeing some 2011 tasting notes soon, as those that responded early for wine have received their shipments.

If anyone has any other questions/comments, please feel free to chime in.

Cheers,
-dave

What's the latest on the 2012 verstion? I've been out of touch (had my first kid 3 months ago) for awhile now and was wondering and was thinking it's going to be released this summer? Is that correct? Tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything.

Thanks
Brad

Brad,

the 11 were released this year, so the 12's are in barrel and finishing up, quite nicely I might add. they will be bottled at the end of this year for delivery early next year.

In for 2 cases. texted Smig to confirm.

2011: I've tasted the 2011 on 3 occasions. The Rutherford is quite rich for the vintage and approachable now. The Howell, gains weight in the glass and holds promise for aging. The blend has great structure and acidity for some ageing, yet shares the approachability of the Rutherford. At my 1st tasting I liked the GIII the best, but now the Howell is my personal favorite. All 3 are quite good for a tough vintage and I think they will all benefit from 5-7+ years of bottle age. The oak treatment was well done, 50% new, 50% neutral so it is not a dominant feature and is a nice touch. The fruit is a bit muted at first so aereate or decant to get a better expression of the wine. 1st tasting was at home, 2nd was in San Francisco at dinner with my French colleagues, this week at my in-laws in Barbeau.

2012: Wow! what a great vintage and the barrel samples are nothing short of extraoridinary. Glad I got 3 cases.

2013: I passed so anyone want to split a share.

2014:I'm baaack, in for 2 cases but can up it to 3 if we need. Looks like we are right at one barrel.

Thanks Anne, Eric and Smig

A little shake rattle and roll to begin the Napa harvest won't slow us down. Rutherford is coming along very strong and we might be picking soon. The Brix are very close, but the flavors are not quite there yet.

I wanted remind everyone that the second payment is due by Oct 1. I will reach out to you individually to confirm you have a payment due. If you don't see a message from me that you have a payment due, then you DO NOT have a payment due. I will reach out to each you via PM first and then via email if I dont hear back.

Thanks everyone for your support
Cheers,

You'll be seeing him at the winery this week or next week, not sure which. Not sure if you realize it's the same guy.

well it seems that the pick was called around 5:30 due to the heavyish rains and they didnt bother telling us until we headed to the office around 7:30. we were assured it would happen tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed for all of us. In the meantime, here are few pics of the lovely fruit as we transitioned out of darkness to morning in Napa Valley.

Gorgeous fruit!

Do we have more than one row? Row 19 I saw, but is there another?
Just curious!

Great question dawn. We have 2 half rows and 2 full rows. I can actually point them out on Google maps. Let me see if I can put a screenshot of it up...Our rows are 17-20. We have had the same rows for every vintage of Rutherford. There isn't pictures of the other rows because not every row is labeled.

Update: Here is a link to a PDF that I created. the first shot will give you an idea where I am all Silverado and Ponti roads. that whole block is B1B. The zoom in shows you a clearing in the center of B1B and I put in 4 arrows. I have the last two short rows to the west (17&18) and the first two full rows past that (19-20) We pull a barrel out of the 2.5 tons that come out of here for CT.

Hope this helps you pinpoint this on google maps.
