Still cold. Warming trend on the way as Tom mentions. Back to close to 80F next week. More like it.
Have a great Friday everyone!

Had an OK Friday, but quite busy. Did not accomplish all that I wanted to, but that's what the next few days are for.

Looking at NFL playoffs, I no longer have a dog in the hunt. So I am sort of supporting the Steelers (long-time interest) and Carolina (long-time connection to NC & SC). Buffalo is of some interest, as are the Vikings, but those don't equate to any support. No-No to the Patriots, hopefully. Outta my control.

Noted that very few teams in the playoffs come from major wine states. So pairing might be a challenge for those so inclined.

Tonight, maybe Dear Husband and I will view an old movie. Very likely will be enjoying the Milbrandt Cab, Columbia Valley, 2012, Traditions opened last night. Had several white wines and a brut rose' recently. I am now more in the red, red, red, mood. It is January....

Hope all have a good weekend.

My mother in law suffers from chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and her health has taken a sharp turn for the worse lately (after being nearly asymptomatic for years). We've arranged hospice help, but we've spent the week attending to her at home after bringing her home from the hospital. We weren't prepared for this, and it's been frazzling for all of us; so we need a bit of a break. We're seeing if she can manage without us for an evening. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are coming over, along with a couple of friends, for a dinner of venison chili, good wine, and a nice fire in the fireplace on this very cold evening. My wife must drive to Virginia for a week of training tomorrow, so she's been very busy with all of these things. So, that's what I'm up to this weekend.

Very sunny and unfortunately still very cold as well in Chicago. Maybe 12 degrees F (-11 C). I feel guilty for not running outside in this weather, but my lungs & sinus still are not recovered from the flu.

Today's coffee is from Bali. Amazing stuff being grown on the side of an active volcano.

I am told to keep out of the way while my wife takes down the Christmas decorations.

I get a slight feeling she doesn't trust me to handle them properly. Oh well, I will have to make do with a glass of wine

The last of the holiday decorations will come down after Sunday. Sunday is the Orthodox Christmas holiday, so i usually wait until then. Will open a bottle of Serbian Cabernet tonight to celebrate.

Must be nice. My wife told me to get off my butt and carry the Christmas decorations up to the attic.

Warming trend in play, so we were able to remove the coverings from all of the tropical plants. Sounds like a reason to open a bottle of wine to me.

Younger grand kids coming over for dinner and a sleep over. Sounds like a better reason to open a bottle of wine.

From experience there is (only) one advantage to -40 to -50C. When it comes to clearing the car windshield (windscreen), all it takes is a flick with the brush side of the ice scraper - it's dust, so no need to chisel off ice

Finally checking in... about 45F outside right now. Easy peasy day... no bankers, realtors, utilities, services, etc. today! Dr. M is enjoying a quiet day for sure.

Eddie, terrible update on your MiL's condition. I have highest respect for Hospice. Enjoy the chili, wine and warm fire!

Don, life better in the Sunshine State?

Anybody else ever have your car break down on the side of the road and your 1st thought is, "I really gotta pee!"

Suspect my fuel pump is not enjoying our cold weather.

Eddie, our condolences to you and Mrs. Eddie on the passing of her mother. Hopefully she is in a better place and free of pain or suffering but that does little to comfort the immediate sense of loss.

None of us oldsters want to go before our time.
Going in for my second carotid endarterectomy tomorrow. First one was 9 years ago and an ultrasound during physical check up was showing no change, but a CT follow up indicated repair work was needed.
Got a new Fitbit to aid in my walking regimen along with other health tracking.

Sunday is actually a nice day for me now. I used to dread them knowing I had to go back to a job I hated. Interview in Denver went great but just being qualified isn't enough anymore. There are lots of variables. See what happens. Office is on 55th floor downtown Denver. Not a fan of heights but at least no earthquakes in Colorado. At least they are not common.

Watching NFL Playoffs. Made Colorado sauce for chicken tonight from reconstituted chilis. Next week will be my first complete week without working. Plan on exercising and working out everyday. Will make a hit list of Denver Financial Services Companies. Will decide which ones I want to work for and start sending out resumes. I am going to focus on Schwab down in Lone Tree to try to avoid commuting to downtown. It's the 1st of the year so should start seeing more job offerings. Feeling much more relaxed.

Day 7 of no drinking and no carbs. I usually start to notice after day 10. Feeling great and lots of energy. Considering I'll be working ou daily I think I can drop 10 by end of January.

Rick

Who needs health tracking when you have CT tracking! Seriously, swift recovery and keep us posted. Be nice to those nurses.

Eddie - Sorry about the loss

Freezing rain all day in the Chicago area. A rather dreary & dull day with most of it spent on the couch. I did venture out to visit a friend of mine, one of those APN's who work at a local pharmacy seeing patient's for minor ills & stuff. Seems that the stores now have a rating system (like CT!) so you can measure your health experience. Only bad side, is now patients come in with stupid preconceived ideas that they need this & that and score you a big fat zero if you don't give them an antibiotic or whatever THEY think they need. Why go to a health professional if you think YOU are the stable genius??

Speaking of London type weather. I see that there is a big train strike in London tomorrow morning. Fun Fun Fun!!

Not back to work yet - was going to leave this evening for the drive back north, but my wife's school is closed tomorrow due to a small threat of wintry weather, so am staying here in Atlanta now. Will have to stay for the college football championship tomorrow so that means taking off at midnight or so, but what the heck - I love driving at night when the traffic is so much less.

Going back to work after a couple weeks off over the year-end holidays has never been fun, but just a handful of times in the future, at the most for me.
