I had a couple recently and thought I'd give this thread a bump...this $4 Cava and this $10-$15 CdR both go the job done for limited bucks...I did have one bottle of the Cava that was spoiled. When I opened it, it was flat...other then that, they were both good drinkers

A second vote for the Guigal Cotes Du Rhone - cheap, readily available, (fairly) consistent and it hits the spot. Moving on now from the 2004's to the 2005's

Had a £10 Catena Malbec - very juicy, complex and alluring.   I highly recommend it - it is quite full bodied, but dont let that put you off.

Don't think I've ever tried it, but you haven't steered me wrong yet, so I will add it to my shopping list.

Rats!  Neither Binny's nor Sam's carry this one.  And I'm pretty sure the mom & pops around here don't either.

Binny's had it on their website awhile back.  Maybe ask them if they will be getting more in.

If you can get to Wine Library next time you're in NJ you may want to check there...they generally stock it.

I really think it's one of the best combinations of quality, quantity, and value I've been to.

Paso A Paso Tempranillo  2007, under $13 a bottle, 89+ rating from parker
Very rich, inky, smoky oak on the finish, seems a bit under rated compared to many of the 90 point Spanish wines I've had lately
I've probably tasted this wine 100 times, very very consistent, takes about 45 min. of breathing time for all the flavors to come out.

I had this bottle after an 04 Mi Sueno El lliano which is always unbelievable.  There was no disappointment  to my palate what so ever.  If you didn't know the price you would think the Paso was priced right with the Mi sueno.

I've found 2005 Château Pesquié Côtes du Ventoux Terrasses to really hit the spot lately.

I have to second this --see if your local guy has this ( in 2006 now ) ... really great QPR --but BEWARE --this starts you down that slippery slope of becoming addicted to RHONE wines .... don;t say we didn't try to warn you ...

This is a very unusual thread.  It heats up for a couple of days, then goes dormant for like 3 weeks....then heats up for a couple of days with tons of commentary...then dormant again for a month.  Then it starts up again.  Strange cycle.  I'm looking for correlations.   I've ruled out the lunar cycle.  Maybe there is an inverse correlation to the stock market...thread becomes active when the market tanks.  Or maybe it's payday related.  Not sure...I need to ponder this over a glass of wine.

GtG - I hope with an under $15 / bottle glass of wine ;) - earlier tonight at the Hickory Cigar Club dinner I had a very good CA chard that fits into this category, the '07 Foxglove from SLO.

I'm going to a wine tasting tonight at a place that tries to be "upscale" but is really more moderate to low end.  It's also rather overpriced.  I'll probably buy a bottle of something interesting but inexpensive (maybe something from this list?), my guess is the wines they'll be pouring will all be under $15.

I'll try to write TN's, but meeting some people there, so you know how that goes.  Taking the roadster so I can't drink much, it's not a forgiving car.  (Basically policing myself by driving my Baby Girl.  )

2005 Warnke Cellars Merlot.  Definitely outperforms its price point.  I saw WL mentioned earlier, they probably still have some.

I have a SKY.  Ended up running late and as I walked to the garage I realized the keys were still locked in the safe from when I went to Napa.  (Can you tell how much I don't drive it?)  Decided not to take the time to go back for them, so took the sedan.

The wines they were pouring didn't do much for me.  I scored them 83-88.  The best was a pinot grigio.  I'm not a pinot grigio drinker though.  The owner of the wine shop it was held at pulled me aside and gave me a glass for a double blind tasting.  I could tell right away it was a cab, it wasn't bad.  Didn't actually score it, but would have probably gotten an 87.  He asked me if I'd buy it if it were $10 a bottle, and I said that it was good QPR for a $10 cab.  It was from a box!  I can't recall what it was, will find out.

He also gave me a sip of a port he had open.  I described it as chocolately creme brulee.  Had notes of chocolate and vanilla, and was sooo creamy.  Bought a bottle of that.  N.V. Trevor Jones Jonesy Rare Aged Port

Tasted a preliminary sample of a new Jaboulet 2008 rose labelled as Parallel 45 ... very intriguing and the rep is guessing $11/btl.
That may be my summer wine this year (at least until I get out to Napa and taste some of smig's wine)

Enjoyed another Santa Ema reserve merlot over the course of the day today, an excellent every day drinker that hovers right on either side of the $15 / bottle mark.

Some interesting ones I have tried recently and I really like include:

2007 Bodegas Borsao Garnacha Campo de Borja Tres Picos ($14)
2007 McManis Family Vineyards Petite Sirah ($11)
2006 R Wines Shiraz Luchador ($13)
2005 Chateau La Croix Lartigue ($14)

These have all been wines that I have bought on recommendations by my favorite Orlando wine retailer and ended up going back and purchasing more after trying. Out of the above, I think the Tres Picos is my favorite. It just received a 91 rating by Parker in the Feb '09 issue and I, and others, thought it would go higher. My second favorite is the Luchador Shiraz. A great QPR!
