This is a real German word:

rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz

It translates as, “Beef labeling surveilance task transfer law”, literally; I guess an implied meaning would be something like “Beef chain-of-custody-record-keeping law”.

I wonder what German spelling bees are like?

Edit: I don't want to hear any of you complaining about the label on a bottle of Riesling. You have it easy, compared to the beef-regulators.

I have a theory: German public department employees get paid by the letter.

DING DING DING DING

as a lifelong German minor, I can confirm that the only german words that qualify for "longest word in the world/ in germany/ etc" are words that were created in the crevices of adminstrative/ government bureaucracy. I'm a pretty bed wetting liberal, but I'll happily admit that.

I find that video absolutely hilarious. The best part: A Wes Anderson Habsburg era officer suggesting that complainers should send their concerns to the hospital in which they were born.

Yeah, but that's really Chicago O'Hare. The Onion probably couldn't get away with telling the truth.

The ten year anniversary of this thread is coming up soon. I thought you all would like to know since probably our computers will stop working, our bank accounts will become inactive, and life on earth as we all know it will cease to exist. Drink up!

I went back and read the beginnings of this thread about a month ago.
Please correct me if I am wrong but this is the thread about nothing?

It's a random thread for the regulars to chat about general b.s.

Sort of like a never ending episode of Seinfeld, just not in a diner or Jerry's apartment.
