I attended a memorial service for Don Van Steenwyk (Adelaida Cellars) this morning. I currently have only one of his bottles, but it seems fitting to drink it tonight.

Probably a lot ... I've been working for 12 days and am looking forward to some serious consumption.  Need to figure out what to cook/drink on Sunday when the Vikings (hopefully) take down the "who dat" Saints.

I am just so glad you weren't referring to Mexican wine.

Damn. Just noticed someone already posted that blog. Oh well.

I will be drinking a 2003 Pontet Canet (which is already in the decanter) for dinner with friends.

I think Mexico is doing some decent wines- I think a lot better quality than the Temecula/SD area.  It is a tough growing region with little water that really stresses the grapes and brings out a lot of flavor/ter.  Most make their wines in the French style and take a lot of pride in what they make- not about quantity.  They have also been doing it for 100+ years.  I was there 3 years ago and drove around to a couple different wineries and was pretty happy.

Eyrie Pinot Noir 07
Ponzi Pinot Noir Willamette 07
Havens Bourriquot 05

So far the Ponzi was as described...lots of funk on the nose and very effervescent on the palate with decent cherry taste. My wife hated it so that won't be a repeat. Popped the Eyrie for her to switch to so we'll see how that goes. Decanting the Havens for the steak we're having in an hour or so.

Including mine, there are only 3 bottles in CT and only one note that tells me absolutely nothing. Baking a meaty pizza so decided to give it a whirl. Nothing like going in blind.....

Just a basic Parmesan Risotto that I fancy up with some White Truffle oil and some Black Truffle sea salt. Not sure if that violates some Order de Cuisine but it sure is good (oh yeah, I substitute 1 cup of Viognier for a cup of the Chicken Stock)

Been meaning to ask you to jot down the recipe you and Kim(?) made for that Pizza with White Truffle oil...that was fantastic and would like to try my hand at it. Feel free to send me an offline note if you care to divulge.

Won't send you the recipe ... you have to come back and suffer through another night of wine debauchery to access this secret recipe!
Seriously, I'll let you know (although you'll have to remind me, because I'll never remember it now)

Bubbles and a bottle would have been a little much considering the drive.  Been holding onto the Pegau to give it a few years, and the Clos De Papes is a mag I'm holding onto for a decent sized group.  Ended up taking an '03 Fiddlehead 728 pinot and it was a great choice.  The wine was singing and we couldn't have been happier!  -mJ
