We went to Husk in Greenville tonight and opened a delightful 2000 Pichon Baron. Phenomenal wine.

Unscrewed the cap of a 2014 Seaside Cellars Pinot Noir last night in preparation for tonight. It was yucky when first opened, which I knew, but nice now after pouring a glass to sit, and leaving the cap off the bottle for 24 hours. I still say this is the best bargain PN to drink with sharp cheeses.

2014 Saget Père & Fils, Vouvray AOP. Began 2-3 days ago and it is decent. While label says demi-sec, it comes across as more fruity than outright sweet. Probably worth the $12-$13 paid as a TW discount vino. And I do typically enjoy Chenin Blanc.

Even though we have had chillier evenings than usual it works. And, duh, it is January so evenings should be chilly.

Cheers!

Good advice - I had only tried three hours open, but this sounds good Tx

You're quite welcome! This stuff is harsh the first few hours, and even the next night to two at refrigerator temps. It really needs to be served between cellar temp and room temp for the best results.

A friend in the trade is bringing a

1994 La Landonne Guigal and a 2008 Staglin Vineyards Cab Sauv

there may be some champagne to start as he works for one of the best Champagne houses. I believe Winston Churchill was a pretty good customer of theirs

Infinite Monkey Theorem, NV, Blind Watchmaker. Per the winery, 50% CO Syrah, 50% CA Syrah. Purchased a few years ago. Intriguing to me. We will see....

Having dinner with one of my old college roommates tonight. I'm bringing a 1982 Dunn Howell, he's got a 2009 Mongeard-Mugneret Echezeaux. Well throw in a few before and after bottles, but those are the feature presentations.

Believe it or not, I expect the dinner to exceed the wines. I'll post on it afterwards.

So I'm going to a birthday party tonight. A private home dinner prepared by arguably the best chef in Atlanta, for a friend turning 65 who has some friends with some awfully nice wine.

MindMuse, would appreciate any and all reviews.

The Infinite Monkey Theorem we have been enjoying is decent enough. Below average QPR, but an interesting 50/50 blend of CA and CO Syrah. Extra credit for creativity, maybe.

I'm going to a girls night party, where each lady is asked to bring a theme based app with a cocktail to match. We'll be judged on originality and presentation. I'm bringing vegan pulled pork Hawaiian sliders, and individual 8oz Sex On The Beach fishbowls. They'll have the mini peach vodka and Malibu bottles sticking out of them.

I'm bringing home the Gold.

2001 Mas Doix Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles

Absolutely hitting on all cylinders tonight. Beautiful nose of cherry, which was very jammy & in your face upon opening. It has subdued into a very subtle cherry spice mild cigar box with a touch of camphor and morning dew stone mineral type thing happening. The tannins have completely resolved and the oak has been almost completely swallowed up. Still a very dark wine with no signs of bricking. Finish has legs for days. In a great spot right now with no signs of decline anytime soon imo. Glad to have quite a few left in the cellar!

Last night I opened a bottle of 2011 Ch. D'Arvigny (Haut-Medoc) so I could add some to my sautéed onions/mushrooms. I wanted to drink the Merryvale Cabernet that I opened, and not cook with it.
I also snuck a short glass of the D'Arvigny on the heels of the Merryvale and it was very good (but I knew that).
So that's what I'll drink tonight.
