I guess the most sensible thing to do would be to drink the bottle I just uncorked

Ah, that bottle is a Mas Gabriel 2012 Les Trois Terrasses
VDP du Hérault, almost 100% Carignan.
Excellent QPR

Nice! 2 of our favorite vintages.

Even this young, it's fantastic.

2nd wine in over a month. My birthday is next week so this is just a warm up. Tonight to be served with Rack of Lamb is:

2012 Pride Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.

Other than a couple of bottles of 2012 Chimney Rock Cab this is the only other I've tried from this vintage. Pride is usually not overly tannic so I think it might be in my optimal drinking window (6+ years). We'll see.

Just drank a Kick-Ass Sagrantino with supper, and then opened a 2012 Proper Syrah to bat clean-up.

Edited to add: The Proper just knocked an in-the-park homer.

Last night a 2004 Nicholas Cole reserve, man time has been kind to this wine. Just starting to show secondary flavors and beautiful acidity, fruit must be integrating because this bottle is no where as big or heavy as some of the descriptions I have read. Ordered a few more from Saratoga @ $30. Great wine!

Yes, that's where I got it. Vintage Wines had K Vintners The Deal Sundance for $28. Haven't tried that yet.

Recently

13 antica - needs time, should be a great wine in 8-10 years

13 neal napa cab - the best neal napa I've ever had. Should truly be a stunner in 12-14 years.

Finishing a Vivac Sangiovese, New Mexico, 2015. A bit overpriced at $16 but not bad at all. Enough going on today with life, news, markets, etc. that a quiet evening with a decent glass of red vino sounds wonderful....

We're going to a fund raiser for the private school our daughter runs held at a local wine store. I'm sure they'll be pouring plonk, but given that our noses are stopped up and everything taste like crap, I'll probably just write the check and head back home to bed.

2009 Syrape, Per Cazo Cellars, Paso Robles. Blend of Syrah (majority) and Petite Sirah. Opened last night. A big, deep red. Purchased while staying at a b&b owned by the Per Cazo folks. They didn't grow their own grapes, but collaborated on grape selection and blending.

Cheers!

Going to try another glass of 2014 Daou. On the pop 'n pour it was much sweeter than I remember it, so I'm hoping it has improved with some air.

Try the 2011 Barbaresco from Produttori. It's a really accessible vintage.
