Had a bit of a Quivet Napa Cab last night to celebrate Hallmark, I mean Valentine's Day, with mrs dontime. Back on the wagon today until I fully recover.

Speedy recovery to you. Did the wine at least taste somewhat like it should?

Brought my sweetheart out to a byob last night. Opened a split of the 164th Krug Grand Cuvee and then a 1999 Pieri Agostina Brunello. The Krug was very good but I think I might prefer 06 Tattinger Comtes. The brunello was very good but not quite as good as my last one.

How was the Mt Eden? I have some of the '14, but unsure when to drink or what to expect.

I really love the 2011 which is bright and lemony. The 13 seems to have much more of an oxidative (not premox) and nutty toasty oaky character. I much preferred the 2011 than the 2013. From what I read, the 2014 is back to the lemony character over the 2013 but you don't know until you try. Pop one of those babies to see what it's like and then wait a couple years for the next one to gage what you like. Better yet, find a 2011 on the secondary market and give that one a try!

2004 Poggio Il Castellare Brunello di Montalcino.

Once it warmed up a bit from fridge to about 60˚ it was really nice.

2009 Stags Leap Fay Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Hopefully it will be better than the last bottle I had which was pretty pedestrian.

I got an invite to dinner with a group of friends who like wine but aren't vinophiles.
So I'm bringing a bottle of 2014 Merryvale Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard and a bottle of 2014 Ch. Grand Puy Lacoste.

We will be having lasagne so we will finish a bottle of Zenato Ripassa I opened last night and then will likely move to a cab or bordeaux style blend.

A final night of Bourbon.
We're ready to be home. I've got cooking to do for visiting VIPs on Burgundy Thu.

I got an invite to dinner with a group of friends who like wine but aren't vinophiles.
So I'm bringing a bottle of 2014 Merryvale Chardonnay, Hyde Vineyard and a bottle of 2014 Ch. Grand Puy Lacoste.

At the last minute I added a bottle of 2014 Merryvale Pinot Noir to the mix. A good thing I did too. there was a total of 8 people and I only anticipated 6.
These folks were worried when I plopped the bottles onto the table at the restaurant, thinking it was against the rules.
But I had called as soon as I knew where we were eating. The corkage was $25 per, and they didn't have proper glasses but it was worth it.
Most everyone liked the wine. However one of my friends wouldn't even try it. He had beer. Well, we were at a pub, so...

The Merryvales both had way too much oak on top of the fruit for my liking but others thought they were very good.
The GPL hit the spot for me, for the second time in a couple of weeks. Although I have to put the brakes on with drinking these Bordeaux so young, or I'll never get to drink them after the aging process.

One of my friends says his favorite CNDP - 2012 Antoine Ogier Cuvee Reine Jeanne is the equal of the GPL, and he has some cab/merlot blends that I will like even more. As if...
I'll be sure to bring a bottle of Andre Will Ciel du Cheval to compare with his blends that day.

1996 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault En La Barre

Just opened prior to making dinner. (Dinner will be slightly different from my original plan, but: Seared sea scallops, thinly sliced grapefruit and shaved fennel salad, and fregola tossed in arugula pesto).

On PNP, the wine is a canary yellow, and smells like butter, hazelnuts, pineapple, and has just a bit of this rainwater aroma that I usually associate with Chablis and Mosel rieslings.

On the palate, it's pretty full-bodied with nice acidity.

Pretty nice juice after all these years.

Just got back from dinner where we had our second to last 375ml of 1997 Fattoria di Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva. Every bottle we open just gets better and better.

Had my jazz concert tonight, and celebrating with '14 Sandlands Trousseau.

I have one more conducting gig on Friday and then I am DONE with the 2 months of hell. March should be a breeze.

2013 Sottimano Barbaresco Pajore. Not as complex and less acidity than the 2014 PdB I opened a couple nights ago, but still tasty.

Not sure I’m getting a good education on traditional vs modern Barbaresco comparing these two. I thought Sottimano was modern?
