Separately...i tried to create a new location while adding multiple wines and it created it for the first wine but it didn't add it to the location pick list for subsequent wines

This was on the bulk purchase screen (step 3 after the shopping cart). Yes I need to make it so that if you Add a Location to one dropdown it shows up on all the others. A little tricky scripting but will be done.

thanks...your repsonsiveness and customer service reside in the Pantheon of the amazing...

Separately...i when i am in my cellar...and i select a saved search...and then click on "in my cellar"...it takes me back to the home page rather than the classic view of my full cellar

I'm trying to "clear" the saved search to see the default view again...yet even when i select "clear this search" it clears everything...not just the filtered search and shows no bottles in my cellar...i may be missing the right click but i've tried everything just to refresh to my default view...everything takes me back to the "home" page and i have to click on my cellar again.

the only way i have figured out to do it is to simply click on 'my cellar' at the top right...it works but i'm not sure it's best to use that button to accomplish the refresh given it's a 'destination' oriented clickable item rather than a clickable tool for working in the screen.

Eric,

I use a twelve year old notebook with IE6 by the cellar door with a bar code scanner.  Works great with CT for removing bottles.  However, I note the following with GS:
  • The scan page shows the rendering error for the large font
  • The scan works, and finds the bottle
  • The popup window is half off the bottom of the 1024x768 screen
  • When I pull the popup up and click to remove the bottle, I'm taken to a nearly blank, bulk screen, and the system seems to hang.  If I close the window, the bottle isn't removed.
  • When I've tried this as a manual entering of the bar code on a machine running firefox 3.5.8, things seem to work OK.
Bug, or just no support for IE6?

Just lots of IE6 issues in particular at this point. We are looking at it.

I have not read the whole list here, but...

If I browse my wines by value, it does not seem
to apply any filter, it just list my entire cellar. The
other default filters (eg pinot noir) seem to work fine.

No, you add the wine. Then on the page for the wine you can add your drinking window and other data.

a few more minor issues...

the edit-consumed page has some problems (http://www.grapestories.com/editconsumed.asp?iWine=193498&iConsumed=18859331)
- the UI is a confusion of lines
- if i edit the consumed date it doesn't change the tasting note date
- i ticked 'flawed' on the tasting note and the record now shows 'returned', which is not true
- on mac-chrome, the price shows as "£9.00" ie capital-A-circumflex pound-sign (a frequent web error with macs)

also
- from a wine page i have a drop down of other vintages, it would be helpful to star or bold those with tasting notes
- if i've been looking at a cellar listing filtered by location, go into a wine, and go back to the cellar listing, i'd like to retain that filtering
- on a wine page, the tasting notes tab shows how many notes there are, but the pro notes one doesn't (it should)

Two things -

When looking at "Ready to Drink" display the "In My Cellar" numbers are squeezed and difficult to separate from "All" and "Pending Delivery" numbers.  I'm running Firefox.

Also, I would like to see what I paid for the wine (along with valuation) on the "My Cellar" display, but that may be just me.

Tried to add a new wine to the database this morning. Appears that "Wine Name" is automatically generated from the producer/variety info, so you cannot actually tag the wine by its actual name.

In my case the wine is "Porta da Calada" by the producer "Herdade de Calada". The new wine is listed as "Herdade de Calada" and not by it's actual name. I couldn't find any way to edit the automatically generated (incorrect) name either during or after the creation process.

Thx

A couple of suggestions/requests based on my reactions after using GS for the last few days.

1. A suggestion with respect to the information spacing/density issues:
Personally I am unlikely to ever use the items in the "Popular Wines Like This", "Food Pairing Tags" column that takes up a fair bit of space down the left-hand side even in the "Classic" view. I understand that others may want to use them, so I am not suggesting that they be removed, or even touched in the Standard view. In Classic view though, I would suggest moving them down to drop-down arrowed bars right down at the bottom of the page, along the lines used for categories like "Wine Details", "Learn More About This Wine", etc. Then all the information bars from "My Cellar" on down could be expanded to fill the entire width of the page underneath the yellow section, which would lead to more compact use of the space and fewer line wraps. They would still be available on the arrowed bars (?don't know what those are technically called?) in the event someone wants to see them.

2. There are several areas (in my case "My Wish List" and "My Private Note") which I use a LOT. In CT the contents of these fields are always visible right on the wine page at all times. In GS their bars are always closed on entering a wine page (I am referring to Classic view) and I have to spend extra clicks to open and see them. I would dearly love to have some way in my profile settings or elsewhere to specify that certain fields (some of the afore-mentioned arrowed-bar-thingies) be opened up by default on entering a wine page.

I am going to let the controversy rest for a while.  In the mean time I will use CT and peek into GS to see the changes until I feel like using it.
A few suggestions for discussion.  Establish sticky treads here in the support section.
1. A thread for complaints.
2. A thread for constructive criticism.
3. A thread for suggestions.

First try with the new version today. Major adjustment, seems like it's all about the social networking rather than efficient and easily customizable searches. Not what I'm looking for, but I figure it's still early in my learning curve. How do I:

Get a list sorted by various levels? Say Country/Region/Appelation? Type/Country? etc.
Get a list sorted by start drink date? End drink date?
Get the list to show which bottles are in the cellar vs pending? Used to be clearly differentiated by parens.

Yeah, sorry about that Eric. I didn't see these on the first page and stupidly missed that there were another 4 pages before posting. Change is always a challenge and I don't expect to get everything out of Grape Stories without putting in some practice time.

No problem David. Trust me, when I am done (or further along), I KNOW you will be happy, will be able to ignore the social stuff if you want etc. GS will even more hardcore than CT, just a little prettier.

I note that on GS the interface does not allow creation of a new producer name longer than 20 letters. That is just not going to be long enough for many producers.

Just a bug...

And now it is fixed. All fields allow 50 characters except for COUNTRY which is only 20. For some reason I had swapped Producer for Country.

Thanks, I just went back over to CT and made the name-change suggestion there instead.

Just to check before I waste any of your time, do you still want us to maintain a distinction between Burgunday names with and without "Domaine"?
(Blain-Gagnard vs. Domaine Blain-Gagnard in this case)

Forgive me if this has been addressed.

When I click to MY CELLAR and my top left box is BROWSE WINES,
tabs for All Community Wines and My Wines (which are good and sticky) and then we have the links for various categories.  Under each heading are apparently the top 4 choices to search/browse and then we have VIEW ALL.  But what VIEW ALL really does is let you view one OTHER, not ALL.   Perhaps rename the link VIEW OTHER.

VIEW ALL should really be VIEW ALL,  imho

this may be somewhere in this thread already...just let me know.  now that the like it/don't like it feature has a neutral, i went back to the recent tasting notes i entered to see if i wanted to neutralize any of my votes...i think i'm coming across a bug with the change...when i went to the wine, i was able to clear my vote in the right hand column...however, when i edited the tasting note and changed the vote to neutral, then change does not appear to be saved in the note details...it still says that i like it...now my vote count has been decreased but if someone looks at this wine, they will think i like it...is that a glitch?

I've just noticed what seems to be a graphics bug. In Classic view (not sure about Standard), when you have a wine with eight or more vintages and you click on the "Browse other vintages" drop-down, the eighth vintage from the top will fall directly above the location of the "Most Recent First" drop down under Community Tasting notes. That lower drop down shows through the vintage list, hides the eighth item on the list, and prevents you from selecting it.

As an example, I was looking at the 1999 Ch. Angludet http://www.grapestories.com/wine.asp?iWine=11256 and wanted to switch to the 2001 vintage and found I could not, as 2001 was hidden and unselectable.

First of all, thank you for a great effort.  I'm enjoying getting used to the new CT.
I tried to read the entire thread carefully. Here are a couple of problems I've encountered:
- I miss the efficient listing of numerous search results on a single screen.  Now, I only get a few, especially when I encounter rather verbose tasting notes! The readability is better, but the information content seems compromised (too few results displayed, too much blank space in left / right margins).  I like to visually scan a lot of TN's on a particular wine and go to the ones that interest me most.  I miss that quite a bit.
- Perhaps I don't yet know how to do this, but when I took a search result and tried to filter first by varietal, then by vintage as done with previous CT, the results did not display in a useful manner.  I really liked the old protocol that listed the sub-results (with # of hits) then allowed you to drill down further within the same filtering choices.  Not sure I'm making myself that clear (sorry!).
----
I'm really looking forward to the increased communication of commenting on TNs and also an improved interface with my cellar to manage inventory, consumption, etc.  These are great improvements, imho.  Thank you!
