Very nice, solid Chianti. Goes down easily, smooth but full and rich. Ready to drink.

10/7/2022 10:02:00 AM - Yup, if I like a wine it's one star, like a lot two, really like three. Not very many get three! But this system has the advantage that I can always give four (or potentially) more stars. Hasn't happened yet.

In any case, it's just a rough guide. IMO it doesn't make much sense to compare wines based on just one number, or number of stars. Lots of dimensions to a wine, and how they fit together leads many different types of tasting experience.

Just as good as the 2007 this time. Subtle, long, and overall glorius!

Didn't know quite what to make of this. Sour but well-made and balanced. Did I like it? It became less strange as I drank a glass. Have to try it again. Nowhere near as convincing as the Peche Lambic, in any case--but that's a different kettle of fish...

Well, well, well. Bought this at the time of the big Maison Ilan 2012 flap, just to see. Didn't expect much, but in fact it's really good--this bottle at least.
C: Very pale red with a distinct brownish tinge.
N: Not much
P: Opened a bit too acid and slightly disjointed. After 20 min or so it came together. Very light, lively, cheery and eminently drinkable. Reaches out to you as you raise the glass. Notes of red fruits, predominantly cherries. Very good length and excellent fruit/acid balance. Burgundy as I like it!

Finished this off after a night on the counter under N2 (Cork Pops Wine Preserver). Again, took a few minutes to come in focus. And it had developed a bit. Deeper, darker and not quite so cheery. But still very interesting, pulled you right in.
Although, thinking about it, this much change seems a sign of instability.

C: Dark ruby red. Very pretty
N: Reticent
P: This is young, but already interesting and very drinkable. Opens smooth and balanced, but a bit reserved. In 10 minutes it starts of pick up taste. By 20, it's come into its own. Notes of dark red fruits; elegant deep, and resonant. Not bright like many other D&R mourvèdres, more on the intense and brooding side. I look forward to watching this develop over the years.
11/22/18:
For Thanksgiving. Decanted one hour the day before per Hardy’s suggestions. Consistent with the previous bottle. Liked it a lot, but one has the strong sense that it needs a few years before it will really strut its stuff. Be patient!
10/9/19:
Decanted 3 1/2 hours. It needed it! Tightly coiled and reticent on opening, after the decant it resembled the first one above. Very drinkable, but still a youngster, it seems!
2/19/20:
Decanted briefly before drinking. Just ready to go this time, it's grown up and left home. Had all the best qualities listed above. What a great wine! I'm upping the rating to three stars.
Three days later, after being on the counter with a Repour, it's even better. Just so compelling, it wraps itself around your tongue and leads you to another, better place. Hardy, you've really done this vineyard justice.
11/28/20:
Decanted seven hours, then put back in the bottle to serve.
Depth, mystery, intrigue. Dark red fruit, a sense of smoke. Strong but elegant. Still on the young side. Big hit at dinner.

11/15/2020 6:42:00 AM - Hi jenmermaidia! Hard to say how much decanting would be ideal--or even if each bottle needs the same amount. I'd go with about two hours, myself. Usually when I PnP a wine like this it's because I didn't have time (or the foresight) to decant. Incidentally, my method is to pour the wine in a decanter and then leave it there, then put back in the bottle just before drinking. In any case, do let us know how it worked out!

4/17/2020 - Peter Kleban Does not like this wine: NR

The first D&R that didn't grab me at all. Opens rather weak, with a note of OJ. After a 30 min decant it was not so orangey, had good balance but not much length. But most important it didn't pull me in at all. In fridge with Repour for two days, after which the OJ note was gone and a slight sourness had developed. But it still wasn't interesting.

This was lovely, really settled down since my last bottle a year ago. It has slight bricking at the edges. Otherwise, it has that uncompromising Heredia spine of taut acidity, along with a wonderful ferrous/bloody meat quality that accompanies the cherry and tobacco notes. Dynamite when paired with a strongly flavored tomato/anchovy/rosemary dish. I had been going to load up on more 2005 but this 2004 is rounding into something special.

Only Sauvignon I purchase regularly is Paul et Francois Cotat. Clearly I've been missing out as this Austrian Sauvignon is wonderful. Restrained nose, with a hint of lychee on the second night. Otherwise a beautifully balanced bottle with acid drive, mineral backbone and none of the overly grassy/gooseberry elements of many Euro SBs nor the tropical fruit aspects of CA SBs. Will purchase again.

Delicious wine. Served on NYE with a triple cream cheese (Delice de Bourgogne) -- a magical combination. A soft, sweetly fruited wine -- and no Cali cola notes. Strawberry and red cherries on the attack, round in the mouth, but with plenty of acid structure keeping it moreish and interesting and balanced. Tannins integrated and a silky texture. I generally drink burgundy now but this struck me as a west coast interpretation of Chambolle -- shoes kicked off, no pretension, inviting and effortless. Bought some 2012 and 2015 Pomarium on the strength of this showing and I rarely buy Cali Pinot any more.

This is one of the best surprises I have had in the wine world in a while. I am afraid I won't do it justice in this note. The color is limpid, light red, with a pretty autumnal hue. All at once a kaleidoscope of color and texture present themselves. It has pretty and generous, but light bodied, red fruit attack. It is balanced and just on the right side of succulent, but better than succulent, more like fresh and textured. There is a complex depth to this wine that is hard to describe. Kinda like it is imbued with nature. This, and the pretty aromas of forest berry and spring woods, have given me a world class Pinot Noir that I will be dreaming about for a while.

Berserkerday Score!!!
