Dark fruits and lovely mid palate and decent finish. This was very well made but felt a bit candied, IMHO. For me, the Fourrier style will go perfectly well with a less ripe vintage - not with a solar vintage like this one.

Finally this Meursault seems to be yielding some decent interest. Since I last tried it nearly a year ago the component parts are starting to fill out and give it some character. It starts with well integrated oak, proceeds with mouth-filling white fruits and a little tropical hint and then some lovely cleansing citric acidity comes through. There is something like tannin at the end. All in all, this is something that I am now looking forward to trying again in the future, rather than wondering quite why I bought it in the first place....

    4/4/2019 1:35:00 AM - Lordswood, many thanks for your message. Indeed I had a couple of bottles over lunch last month and they provided an absolutely wonderful mature chardonnay experience. Unfortunately over the three years since I bought my case I have been through 10 bottles, the preceding eight of which were rather disappointing - tight, linear, primary. Nevertheless I am greatly looking forward to the remaining two - a frustratingly familiar state of affairs!

    2/1/2018 5:48:00 AM - I'm not so sure that a decant will remedy this. I've gone through a case of it over the last few years and most of the bottles have been a real joy. However the last one I had at Christmas was decanted for a few hours and came across as rather mean-fruited, very much in contrast to any previous ones. Could of course be a bottle variation thing but, again, it wasn't faulty, just rather hard work.

Totally open for business, but still very elegant and driven more by lime and lemon zest than the richness sometimes experienced in GC Chablis. The 2009 Billaud Simon GC delivers and elegant well behaved experience tonight. Fruit is there and so is a lovely and rather razor like acidity combined with flowers and orange blossom. The palate adds a lovely viscosity and a 30 second length on the finish. I am quite surprised after so many years, this effort still plays on its elegance instead of "maturity". (score is 91+)

    1/6/2017 3:49:00 PM - Couldn't agree more. I had a bottle of this last week and it is remarkably youthful still. Elegant in a way one would not normally associate with 2009 Chablis. Lovely stuff.

Such a well-behaved chianti. Harmoniously balanced fruit and spice with acid and tannin reined in decorously. Have to dissent from the other reviews here....I like my chianti with grainy tannins and acid verging on the excessive. This was altogether too well turned-out and polite for my taste and barely whispered of its origins. When I want "burgundian", I'll open a burgundy. My favorite entry level chianti remains Monsanto, with its ungainly elbows, street-bruiser cred and intriguing angles and shadows.

    1/26/2016 2:24:00 PM - I'm a big fan of Riecine but I take your point about it being too refined and silky for some palates. On that note I have to say the 2011 had more character. Hot vintage but managed really well with orange peel zing and a more mouth-filling, satisfying flavour profile than the 2012.

Very smooth and accessible even at this stage. Its always a sweet spot but its not as good as the 09 and 10 fourrier gevrey vv. The sweetness of the fruit and overall structure were not as profound as 09 and 10.

-semi-translucent, some color development early bricking
-muted, touch of Vosne spice
-med- acidity, med weight/concentration, shy but opened up a little after an hour, simple, pretty dark berry and a bit of spice element, trace TCA?
-may have been slightly corked but seemingly more advanced than expected too

    3/26/2015 2:38:00 AM - Interesting, or should I say troubling. Jancis Robinson's tasting note from 2011 described this wine as "a little worryingly evolved". I shall have to broach my case as a pattern seems to be emerging. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Same as my 13/3/2013 comments. Quite thin and astringic, still not a patch on the 07 and you can get much better NZ Pinot's for half the price. Couple of bottles left so may leave for another year to see how develop.

    1/11/2014 5:13:00 AM - Dry River do say on their website that their pinots can shut down, normally between the ages of four and six. That would put the 2008 towards the end of that window. I hope that is the reason for the thin, astringent nature of your last bottle and that your experience isn't indicative of the quality of the wine going forward. I've just had a case delivered...!
