pale lemon gold, clean and bright. rich and multi-layered flavours, ripe lemon, pineapple, orange peel, honeycomb, some oak and spices. m+/full body, vibrant acidity, tight-knit sweetness. long finish with some savoury and white floral notes. a super balanced Sauternes, showing wonderful richness and complexity, yes, more complex than d'Yquem 1997 tonight. everybody's favourite one for tonight.

This wine is my archilles heel. I chanced upon their youtube video and i was really impressed by the entire short documentary. And the fact ferregamo bought it, the fact they got 99 points by JS plus its situated on a majestic mountaintop. I rem as i poured out the wine, i remember a nice swirling consistentence and a colour that beams. But alas as i took the first gulp and then second gulp, i was abit taken aback that the taste really came across as just normal…. Nothing out of the spectrum and i wasn’t floored by the experience and needless to say i struggled with understanding how it got 99 points? Not here to throw rocks because i actually bought 4 more bottles of 2015 and 3 more 2016 subsequently to probably convince myself otherwise? Hence i am curious does anyone have any similar experience like me? Or what am i actually missing out?

I'm usually within a point of the CT average so I check here first, but if there aren't many notes Antonio Galloni is the most reliable critic in my experience. If you can wait five years I think this wine will continue to improve. CT92 is quite a good score, wines that cost $500+ are often CT96.

Drank over two days, alongside the same vintage Domaine de Chevalier.

This has not softened as much as the DdC. Rather, it has retained its original, velvet gloved iron fist character. Delightful fruit, high-order expression of (Pauillac) place, exceptional structure and grip. The finish reveals no conception of quit.

My preference over the DdC, on the strength of its rusticity. Tanninphobes might want to give this a wide berth through 2035. Indeed, even the tannin initiated might find holding bottles through 2030 rewarding. 97-98.

I haven't tasted the '15, I guess I could open one for science but thanks to excellent TNs like yours I feel like I get all the benefits while keeping my wine inside the bottle.

Notes of sage, crushed stones, lavender, dried flowers — crushed stones sort of lead the way with the other notes on the edges. Palate is pretty bright with ripe strawberry, incense, finishes with some more preserved red fruit — not overcooked though. Texturally definitely in a drink now style, soft tannins and not a ton of structure overall, but it’s good with clear CdP notes and a nice balance to it.

No sediment in the bottle, bright ruby color.

Bright violets, dark chocolate, cherries, and raspberries on the nose. Faint nose of mushroom to start, forest floor, then moss.

Long length of flavor, but not a very pleasant flavor. Tart under ripe cherry on the pallet. Medium tannins. slightly tart cherry, followed by leather, the ending is tart and the aftertaste tightens the pallet.

It got better and less tart after 90 minutes of decanting, but we finished the bottle so I cant tell you the flavor change after the first 90 minutes.

6/10 - wildly underwhelming for a second growth Bordeaux.

PORTLAND SETH's recent TN had me fearing this was already in decline since my first bottle nearly four years ago, but this bottle was singing. It opened with a medicinal note, but not off-putting. Black olive, some black tea, chocolate, mint, rich cherry almost cough syrup but again somehow not in a bad way, nice acid on the finish, shows some rich, deep, dark fruits, with air long finish again with some tea. I'm not fully capturing this wine. It was excellent.

Worked out really well at the table with stuffed roasted portobello mushrooms that included among other things parmesan, pecorino, sundried tomatoes, basil, and tarragon.

To be safe, I'm going to pull in the end of my drinking window to 2029 from current CT community 2031.

Last of two cases. I had intended to save it for science but I don't always read my tasting notes before pulling a bottle. Three years ago this was a 95 pt wine, but it's just too sweet and hot and the garrigue has receded putting it completely out of balance. The nose still has interesting brambly notes but the palate tastes fortified. Au revoir!

2/15/2024 7:25:00 AM - Both of you are always welcome in our tasting room! I'm starting to think a lack of sulphur is responsible for the precipitous decline of some young bottles I've had recently, especially the Long Toque Vacqueras (2018), while the Gianfranco Daino Suber (2020) was probably heat damaged in transport. Tward, you'll have to be the scientist now and I'm looking forward to your report in a few years, but my prediction is this wine is going to oxidize and taste like tawny Port. Other Rhones have tasted of matchsticks to me, I wonder if the sulphur they added is perceptible.

My wife picked this out of the cellar. Too young for me. I’d give it at least 10 more years. Langoa Barton is a classic Bordeaux in taste, color etc. For me it has that beautiful Bordeaux nose. Nothing better than a sniff of this. I have many across several vintages. Will buy Langoa all day long for a great value. For this one, given the price, hold for 10 years and enjoy the fruits of picking a reasonably priced wine that will be incredible with a meal, and impress a friend.

Tasted blind in a Cab showdown. Opened six hours prior to slowly oxygenate. Got mostly ripe red plum and some leather. It’s a bold wine with a punch of both tannin and acid, which I enjoy. It was very good but clearly could use a little time to develop.

Tastes like tawny port except that it's dry and not sweet. It has a smooth, woody finish and I think it would be great for cooking or Sangria. That's more than I can say for other wineries that have sold me bad wines (not just bad bottles), so definitely not the worst, but it makes me really miss the '18 which was delicious.

Three years ago I said this wine wouldn't get any better, but it has. Five years ago I said it could be great in a few years. Greatness achieved, so let's call it even. Blackberry, graphite, cedar, garrigue, burnt toast. Excellent lift and depth of flavor. Truly the only flaw is the 15% abv which it can't always hide. A tremendous value if you have the patience, I'll be loading up on future vintages as St. Cosme and St. Damien cost 50% more.

12/24/2023 6:00:00 PM - That's a shame. I have three vintages from Garagiste so I have to be careful to keep them straight. I thought the '18 was fantastic. The '19 wasn't quite as good, and of course this isn't drinkable. I mark a wine flawed if the cork was bad or the bottle wasn't stored properly, but if this is how the vintage tastes then I feel like we have to rate what's in the bottle. Sometimes Santa gives you a lump of coal.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting: 14.5% ABV. Deep ruby core, with garnet developing at the rim. High-pitched black fruit, violet, anise, graphite, cigar humidor, blackcurrant leaf, scorched earth. Beautiful perfume and structure on this. Tannins are still very present, but more rounded than I expected given the reputation of 2010. Nice acidity level. LONG finish. Already fantastic now but this will develop even more wonderful complexity with more time.

This structured, intensive, still fairly tight and now somewhat closed wine is having a considerable ageing potential. The wine is also fruity, however, making it fully drinkable at the moment, especially after decanting. The wine is displaying beautiful, classic notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, cedar, pencil and wet earth. All in all, this is very good now, and it will be even better in the future. (Unfortunately enough, this was my one and only bottle.)
