1967 Henninger Kallstadter Steinacker Riesling AuslesePfalz more |
3/7/2015 - davidn Likes this wine: 100 pointsClear, golden brown color; roasted walnuts, dry apricots and orange with a hint of roasted walnuts on the nose. Smooth viscous apricot and citrus with understated sweetness with a perfect balance of acid. A big, wonderful mouth-feel hung in there for close to a minute. i kid you not! If I tasted this blind I would bet money it was a 1967 'Yquem. One sip and I felt transported back in time remembering that last case of 1967 'Yquem that was drinking so nicely the first seven or eight years of this century. Six of us shared this bottle and it went quick; it went down so easy we could have sat there all night drinking the stuff. My last bottle of three (see Mr. Jenning's notes above—Richard, I wish you could have tasted this one). |

I do remember that every person at the NYE party thought it was #2 or #3 out of nine Pinots that night (the competition were some very good wines - #1was the Cirq). |

1/31/2014 - davidn wrote: 94 pointsOpened, poured about 1/2 ounce to taste and let sit 1½ hours in 55° cellar. Typical Chalone AVA with a hint of chalky limestone. Sweetness of dark red fruits (black cheeriest) on the nose and tongue. Good balance; sweet with perfect acidity great with Belgian Ale Stew. A good 30+seconds finish. |

4/13/2013 - davidn Likes this wine: 89 pointsWhat stood out was the creamy texture. Medium dry with white fruits. Actually I was very disappointed especially for a GK wine. It is far off the mark when compared to the same vintage Niederhauser Hermannshole. |

4/13/2013 - davidn wrote: 86 pointsWay over the top wiith acid (which I liked paired with seared SOS) What fruit there was was sharp; like un-ripe pears and apples. All in all it isn't half bad for a 12 year old. 7% residual sugar. I have one more left which I will hold until 2022. |

3/26/2013 - davidn Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery light gold colored with aromas of Apricot, Pear, and Papaya were also on the pallet along with a little peach and smooth orange citrus. The body is like satin. The finish was a bit disappointing; maybe 15-20 seconds. A very special wine that actually stood up to an Italian meringue with a pretty sweet orange "marmalade". |

2001 Château d'YquemSauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
3/26/2013 - davidn Likes this wine: 100 pointsUntil drinking this bottle I thought the 2001 was way too sugarry-sweet and lacking acid. I have changed my mind 100%. This is as good an Yquem I have ever tasted and I believe it is going to do nothing but get better for at least the next 20 years+. Tasting note: Yes! Pairing: Shake a little salt on Torchon of fxxx Gxxx and in the imortal words of Irving Berlin, "Heaven, I'm in Heaven". And also the not so imortal words of Speedy, Try it. You'll like it!". |
