5 hour ox. Perfect cork. Lovely smell from the bottle upon opening.

In the glass very slight bricking, with clear garnet color. Expressive nose of cherry, slight raspberry, and a bit of rose. On the palate good acidity and freshness, with fullness and a savory mix of pommard chunk and volnay silk.

I like this.

Working my way through a case of this. Very fragrant, full, and soft. Lovely nose. Others have told me to hang on longer, but I probably won't.

Bricking, as expected. Subdued, but floral in the nose.

Good acid, fresh, and reasonably long in the mouth. Got better and better over the course of an hour, becoming soft and full.

An old favorite (given the price) showed well again. No blockbuster, but a lovely starter. Very good, but not much more on all fronts, with that slightly smoky touch.

4 hour ox. Slight alc. nose, but sour cherry and raspberry too. A touch chunky in the mouth, but I like it with the steak. There is no obtrusive oak, and the balance is very good.

Full-ish St. J. nose. Good color, with slight orange rim. Lacking ripeness mid-palate. Came together more after 1/2 hr. Good with food. I think I caught this at about the right time, because it didn't taste old, but it's not going to get better.

Joop brought this to the Zin evening, so we started with it. Very dry, with a reticent racy nose of fuit and a touch of mineral. Great acidity and fruit on the palate made it a refreshing starter. I'd love to try it in 5 or so.

I bought this in 1983 in Florence (30-40 $). For 20 years or so it was in a metal trunk in a friend's root cellar in Montana (along with a few other wines). The last 15 years it has been over here in my cellar.

The fill was great (IN), the cork came out in one piece. I had a wee sip, and after noting that there were on faults, I put a neutral cork in. That was at 10am, and we drank it at around 6pm. The color was amazing. Clear ruby/garnet, with almost no bricking. The aromas were terrific, floral and cherry, with a refined earthiness (I know that sounds silly). Taking a sip showed real freshness. Sour cherry, tobacco, a hint of caramel, great acidity, and very impressive length.

It was a real treat, and I was so happy that it was in such great shape.

Bottle has been open 1/2 hr. First sip. Clear garnet with a bit of bricking. Nose of iron, rocks, slight roses, and dried cherry. Soft and even a bit fullish on the palate, with good acid. Nice little gamey touch to go with the cherries.

Drank with Thomas and Jörg. Deep color out to the rim. Very juicy nose of black fruits, a bit of tobacco, hint of tar. Great on the palate; hit all the spots with a good middle. Seems to be at the beginning of peak plateau. Lovely wine.

Yowsa!! Big fun here. No age, no bricking. Blackberry port spicy nose. Full and very deep on the palate, with caramel dates and dried fruit in the background and currants up front. Long, mouth-filling finish. At a wonderful stage -- late secondary and really "on".

A rare treat! A bottle from the basement (not mine) that survived many moves. A1 fill. Cork was a bit of a problem, but eventually came out cleanly. Amazingly clear color with no bricking (!?). Lovely tobacco, cedar, leather on the nose, with fruit in the background. Good acidity in the mouth, with the whole classic number opening slowly. Good length, and a soft, lovely finish.

Stood upright for a month or so. Uncorked 4 hrs. ahead, 45 min. decant. Rather a lot of sediment. Deep nose of black fruits, fresh tobacco, leather, and winter spices. On the palate fresh, with good acidity, tannins there but softened, and long.

Very nice with a corn fed chicken with lemon, rosemary, and garlic, cornbread, and fresh green beans.

My last bottle, and still a fun wine. Modern style, but not over-done. Lots of vanilla-oak, but on the soft side. Very velvety. OTOH - a nagging feeling that the fruit is fading and bottles a year or two ago were much better
