From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this wine was double-decanted off its heavy sediment, allowing three hours of aeration prior to funneling back into the rinsed bottle. It was then presented in single-blind fashion at a Right Bank Bordeaux tasting. The wine retains a medium garnet robe with a brick rim. On the nose, it offers a bouquet of red cherries, dried herbs, coriander, earth and tobacco. Medium-bodied, round, seamlessly alcoholic (12.5%) and with melted tannins, it delivers flavors which mirror the nose. The middle palate is solid and the wine concludes long and smooth. No doubt on plateau, well-cellared bottles should provide pleasure for another 3-4 years. Drink now-2019.

Beautiful bouquet with dark berries and beautifully dosed oak, licorice and some earthy notes. On the palate the same impressions. Full bodied, very well structured with beautiful juicy acidity and round tannin with still a good bite. The second day the wine was even more delicious, so the wine can be cellared for several years more. 93 - 94

Pomerol is not a region known for value wines. Bargain hunting wine lovers should take a good look at this beauty, as it combines an opulent, lush styled Pomerol with good value. Lots of juicy black plum, licorice and earthy character are easily found here before ending in a plush, black cherry finish. Drink now, or over the next decade.

Lush and plush black cherries, chocolate, plum and earthy in character, this value priced Pomerol serves up delicious plummy, silky textured wine that can be enjoyed young, or aged.

Popped and poured. Young, but totally approachable and more than drinkable. Soft but structured, this is a nice wine. Dark cranberry color. Red legs. Feminine nose, with a mineral profile. Very satisfying palate, rich, cocoa, pretty, this strikes just the right note. Hard to imagine a wine of this age drinking better. Slowly unwinds and builds into the finish. Count me among this wine's fans, especially at the price (tiny, given the quality). 4-12-17-8: 91/100.

Soild as always...Transition into phase 2 is well under way with all the fruit intact, and just the perfect tannin structure to drive a fresh and dry finish. Dirty bordeaux!

Would love to stock up on this, but my experience with several bottles show murkiness that bothers me for the long haul. Drinking great now.

Opened to breathe for 1h. Lots of earthy and woodsy aromas, coupled with berry fruit. A dirty Bdx for sure but lots of fruit and cedar. Tannins completely integrated. Well within its drinking window; I will try to hold off for a year before I open my last bottle. Tonight with grilled Alaskan salmon.

Expressive, almost exuberant nose - ripe plums, spices, cocoa, floral notes, tobacco. On the palate ripe and generous, a little heavy at times with medium depth and length. 90-92

Medium bodied, with a fresh, cherry, earth and thyme centric personality. The wine has a rustic texture in the tannins that slightly mars the finish.

This bottle very structurally sound, aged Pomerol, fruit still going strong. Bottle to sip slowly. Incense, tea, forest floor, meaty, and age. Light green and briar. This bottle could last another 20+ years.
Distinctive Pomerol nose.
2nd bottle opened of this vintage.
*5th night open, final night. Has evolved into a beautiful drinking aged Pomerol. Stunning and satisfying. Nose and palette both beautiful aged. Little carvone on the nose. Something to savor, contemplate and remember.

Gorgeous nose - dark fruit, cedar, spices, tobacco, coffee beans, liquorice. Lush and generous. On the palate nicely balanced, fruity, juicy with good acidity. Soft tannins. Spicy, with medium depth and good length. Slightly drying and a little bitter at the end. No rush drinking up. 90-92

Decanted 1 hour. Black fruits, leather, menthol, quite integrated tannins with some grip remaining, med+ acidity that shows a good shelf life potential. Ripe cherries in the aftertaste. Excellent example of Pomerol, specially for the second wine. I’ll keep my other bottle for few years more.
Paired with grilled beef tongue and later with chocolate moelleux.

Another awesome 2nd label!! Excellent QPR at £40!

1hr plus decant and needed more. Dark red color. Dark cherry, wood, and a little licorice on the nose. Wine was initially lacking fruit and was biting, but eventually leveled out into an enjoyable texture with lovely cherry and earth tones. Medium finish. I’ve had the first label and this isn’t far behind granted it’s an awesome vintage!

Very pleasant surprise. Strawberry, wild red cherry, milk chocolate, cedar box nose with just a touch of mineral note. The palate is balanced with very fine tannins still present. Good mid-palate and decent finish. Very enjoyable now. Time to drink up.

a little bit over the edge but still very very pleasant and enjoying. Garnet color witnessing the vintage, still intense hints of oaked bordeaux at the nose, powerful ripe red fruit at the palate. Smoothed acidity and round faded tannins. Top QPR at 25 eur. 91+

God was good to Pomerol in 1998.This wine is the living proof of the success of the pomerol vintage in contrast to the other side of the river, and the pleasure of finding such a gem for such a great price, holding so, so well.
The spirit of Pomerol is so intact in this wine that there is no mistaking the perfume. The cocoa puff nose is laced with a little hint of coconut, giving this wine an exotic perfume. The appearance is medium bodied, yet polished with mild ambering at the rim. The flavors are those of cocoa wrapped red fruit, graphite, and clay. Nice medium finish with pronounced dryness suggesting long life yet...This wine is a testament of many things, but one of them is the impact of proper cellaring.
