Deep reddish/purple hues. Aromas showing fresh berry fruit, lavender, forest floor, baking spices. Still young. Fresh feeling, medium weight. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries .... a slight tanginess overall. Getting baking spices, licorice, along with tobacco and an herbal streak. Long finish. Nice wine. Different. Almost afraid it had a slight fault. Had 1 glass, left it in the fridge with the cap screwed on. Next evening: Capsicum is still there, but has mellowed significantly, to a pleasant level. Red berries and some blue initially, with some Tobacco, pencil shavings, hints of cedar. Some tertiary notes are showing through, but the fruit is still dominant here. Amazing, lingering, fresh finish that just keeps going. Makes you want to take another sip. Very satisfying experience. I have one bottle left, will wait +5 years. Do you find this review helpful? Sweet fruit, floral. Complex. Blackcurrant jam and spice. Toffee. 6.5 Full bodied. Dry. Moderate acidity. Restrained fruit. Slightly astringent. Furry tannin at the tip of the tongue. Good structure. Warm finish. Spicy. It would probably be better with a few more years age to allow the tannin to soften. Try again in 2 years? Appearance: Clear, medium-deep ruby. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developing aromas of plum, boysenberry, tobacco, oregano, and violets. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin is soft and lush, medium+ body feels silky, medium+ intensity, 13.5% abv with developing flavors of boysenberry, tobacco, and bell pepper with a medium+ finish. My second favorite of a line-up that included the 17 (my favorite), 19, 21, and 22 Diana Madeline's. This felt almost light but had great structure and sneaky depth. Palate: Dry, medium+ acid, medium+ tannin is youthful and grippy, medium+ body, medium intensity, 13.5% abv with developing flavors of slightly under-ripe dark fruit - cassis & black cherry, pencil lead, and bell pepper with a medium+ finish. Appearance: Clear, medium ruby with just the slightest edge clouding and browning. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with aromas of violet, graphite, blackberry, spice cake, and bell pepper. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin was tight grained and softened, medium+ body, medium+ intensity with developing flavors of blackberry, graphite, and herbs with a long, but subtle, finish. Showing great balance and focus a lovely wine from a cool vintage, my favorite of a line-up of Diana Medeline's from 2017 - 2022. Drinking well today, likely better in 2-3 year and a decade beyond. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ intensity, medium body with a slightly creamy mouth-feel, 13.5% abv with developing flavors of lemon curd, saline, and licorice with a medium+ finish. Overall, this sits between the Kevin John and Flower Day Kevin John in terms of weight and intensity. Drinking well today but will benefit from another 2-4 years of age. Leaner and more taut than the Kevin John Chardonnay, it felt like it needs a few more years in bottle to soften and integrate but should drink great for a decade plus thereafter.
