4/21/2024 - eboracum wrote: 86 pointsI have a high regard for this estate whose wines I had not seen around in the last ten years. Alas this wine from young Grenache, Syrah and Carignan vines was a disappointment and I have to believe that it was in a dumb phase. Hardly any aromas were detectable on the nose and the medium++ bodied and linearly shaped palate showed rather shy berry fruit, quite abundant minerality, lively acidity and some structure. There was some opening up and broadening of the palate as the wine breathed but not enough yet for it to be a very enjoyable experience. If the aromas and fruit become more expressive with time, this could become a well balanced Roussillon wine (though without the AOP!). Meanwhile quite good. |

3/9/2024 - skurtz Does not like this wine: 87 pointsSome years this can be pretty good, but this bottle is a bit too disjointed, its fruit, acid, and bitter finish not fully integrated. Will try again next year. The balance of the bottle was used for cooking. |

2/19/2024 - andrewfowler Likes this wine: 91 pointsA true oxidative weirdo, with sherried notes leading into jackfruit, lemon, smoke, miso, and piney Lapsang Souchong. Round as a billiard ball but with a distinct salinity, this is going to just be a WTF for most people, myself included, but a WTF can be pretty awesome. |

10/15/2023 - KeithAkers wrote: 91 pointsThe nose is complex and succulent with red and green apples, spiced pears, peaches, nectarines, vanilla beans, toasty notes, honeydew melons, meyer lemons, and some yellow florals. The Medium/full bodied feel is well balanced and deft with crisp, medium+ acidity. This is a lot of fun and it's always a joy to have a Roc de Anges. I haven't had many of the blancs and this is excellent. |

2022 Le Roc des Anges Côtes Catalanes AsterolideMourvèdre more |
2/4/2024 - Eudemis Likes this wine: NR13.5% alcohol. Pure Mourvèdre. Decanted 90 mn ahead because of the reductive character often associated with the grape (in the end there was none of that, but neither did the wine suffer from the prolonged exposure to air). Very good long cork with a very elaborate lattice inscription. Youthful cherry juice colour, most perceptible when pouring; pretty deep colour in the glass. |

12/12/2023 - Clemster wrote: NRL’effet papillon comes from selected parcels of Grenache and Syrah, grown in the weathered schist of the Agly Valley, not far from Domaine le Roc des Anges itself. In the glass, this wine has a glistening, blue-purple color, almost opaque at the center. Vibrant aromas of rhubarb, blueberry preserves, fresh cracked pepper, and red cherries seasoned with baking spices move in and out of the background as the wine evolves in the glass. On the palate, the wine has a bright, juicy, velvety texture, with a fine core of sweet black fruit and spices that echoes the nose, and puts on weight as the wine evolves in the glass. The finish is bright and mineral, with ripe, silky tannins and plenty of freshness and vibrancy. Drink now for its juicy primary fruit, or keep in a cool cellar for up to three years. This could be the most versatile, go to red wine of the season. |

11/6/2023 - mks83 Likes this wine: 92 pointsYouthful inky red-purple color (shocking for its age). The nose has the structure and intensity similar to cote rotie - massively floral (violet and lavender), with equally intense undertones of sour plum, black raspberry, and cranberries (only the last one suggests it’s not a syrah), and a hint of warm wet soil. The palate conforms the nose - the attack shows almost syrupy/jammy concentration of fruit cocktail and ripe sweet tannins, the middle shows rich acidity to balance the fruit, and the after is finely textured and clean - this transition makes the wine not heavy despite the enormous concentration, and highlights the long and floral finish. Went excellently with Pakistani goat curry (goat karahi). 92-93. |

Palate is expressive : bloody, sapy, thyme, fresh blackberrie juice. Structure is not soft but aerial and mineral, with a good acicity. tannins polished. Very elegant Carignan. At his peak, or almost. |
