The nose is slightly perfumed with red berries. Palate has fresh red berries (especially strawberries) and spicy notes. Fresh acid with discrete tannins. Good balance. Medium complexity and lenght.

Had Taco bowl with spicy Quorn, corn, mango, avocado, arugula, coriander, rice and Sirachamajo. To this a Louis Lequin Santenay Vieilles Vignes 2018, truly a wonderful PN. Young of course, great acidity, amazing red fruit, complex, layer upon layer. Very good combo for the food. Drink or hold.

2012 Louis Lequin Santenay 1er Cru La Comme

Pinot Noir more

11/4/2022 - forceberry wrote: 90 points

La Comme is a 1er Cru vineyard that sits at the northern reaches of Santenay, next to the vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet. The wine is made with fully destemmed fruit that is first cold-soaked for several days. After approximately two weeks of spontaneous fermentation the wine is pressed off the skins and racked into 228-liter Allier oak pièces (25% new). Aged for 16-18 months in oak barrels, the fined, filtered and bottled. 13,5% alcohol.

Translucent raspberry-red color with a slightly evolved pomegranate hue. The nose feels quite classically styled with slightly sweet-toned aromas of ripe black raspberries and juicy cherries, some evolved meaty tones, a little bit of clayey earth, light floral nuances of violets and a hint of fresh cranberry. The wine feels dry, fresh and airy on the palate with a light-to-medium body and bright flavors of tart cranberries and lingonberries, some gravelly mineral tones, a little bit of savory wood spice, light crunchy notes of redcurrants and a sweeter, dark-toned hint of juicy blackberries. The wine feels fresh and focused with its high acidity and its light yet gently grippy tannins bring some welcome firmness to the mouthfeel. The finish is dry, long and savory with flavors of tart lingonberries, some crunchy cranberry tones, a little bit of stony minerality, light brambly notes of black raspberries, a hint of licorice root and a faint woody touch of savory oak spice.

A dry, fresh and balanced red Burgundy. Even if the wine is already 10 years old, it still feels very fresh, youthful and lively in nature, not really showing its age one little bit. Although the fruit is sourced from a 1er Cru Vineyard, the wine isn't particularly big in character or complexity - it's just a lovely, airy red combining effortlessly high acidity with red-toned berry fruit and cool minerality. Hopefully some additional aging might coax out some depth and complexity from the wine. Solid value at 23€.

Smells of dark cherries and goat cheese. In the mouth the notes are complimented with strawberry and raspberry meringue and rose water. It is very balanced - more in zen than the 2012.

Louis Lequin Santenay Vieilles Vignes, vintage 2018 was truly a wonderful PN. Young of course, great acidity, amazing red fruit, complex, layer upon layer. For the food, the wine was perfect, grilled chicken with potato salad with a vinaigrette with high acidity.

Dense, rich, unctuous and powerful. Old school white Burg of great character. Sappy orchard fruit flavours with a mineral spine buried just below the surface. Citrus freshness punctuates the long finish.

Enjoyed twice within a week. The rating reflects the second bottle served slightly warmer and therefore under more favorable conditions.
Very young and would have benefitted from decanting.
Excellent Chassagne character centered on citrus fruit and minerality.
Beautiful texture and complexity.
Met our high expectations.

Sealed under Diam, this is really good. It is deep and muscular, 'old school' Batard of explosive power. There are complex aromatics of white peach, mint, truffle cream and smoky minerals. It has great weight and depth, with sappy orchard fruit flavours and chalky underlying structure. It has serious length, citrus rind freshness and plenty left in the tank for future development.

It pours out with a fresh green tinge. There's Morgeot's usual generosity, with white peach fruit aromas and flavours, some aniseed, spearmint and smoky mineral. It has layers of flavour, with a light butteriness and a finish that is fresh and persistent.

Dinner at Bar-a-Thym (Bar-a-Thym): Leaning into oxidation, and rather light for a Batard, but that aside, this was a fairly yummy drop. The nose showed the typical rancio shades of browned apples and dried fig peel of a premoxed wine, but these were accompanied by more typical mature Burgundy notes of honey and red apples, maybe a touch of butter and florals at the edges. The palate was a bit fresher I thought, with decent enough acidity for a 2005 and a good bit of minerality running through its notes of honey and red apples. There was some power and buttery depth there for sure, only abating at the end of a long, minerally finish, where those rancio notes of browned fruit set in again. All in all, not bad, especially when paired with food.

Dinner with Sasi (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): I preferred this upon release some 10-11 years back. It is still decently good though, if clearly not a top shelf Batard. The nose still had that modern lick of vanilla and toast influenced oakiness, with some fat white fruit and butter notes at the edges of the bouquet. The palate had the weight and depth of a Grand Cru, with plenty of plump, fat white fruit, and riper, almost tropical shades, but there was also plenty of oaky, woody character that stood out - a bit distractingly at points. Otherwise, a decent enough wine that had an okay balance and a decent sense of length at the spicy finish.

Night One of Two Big Sydney Extravaganzas (Sydney, Australia): Evocative nose of buttered popcorn and caramel. It took a lot of air for the palate to catch up, but once it did, it was impressive, and a reminder of the importance of decanting so many well made whites. The last sip was the best, and the wine had not nearly plateaued at this point, IMO.
