Earlier notes from AGELVIS are spot on. Enjoyable, well made wine with a compelling array of flavors.

Rich, bold wine but with a soft texture. Black cherry, prunes, dark chocolate notes. Good length and finish. Drank with grilled picanha and I don’t think there could be a better pairing. After a few hours, the wine came into better balance with a core of ripe cabernet fruit. Excellent cabernet!

A: Medium ruby (Brandon says deep ruby is only in young amarone....hmmm, don't think so, may have misunderstood)
N: Pronounced nose of black plum, black cherry, squashed raspberry, blueberry, cinnamon, clove, chocolate (you get this with medium + toast barrel says Brandon). The fruit is very ripe, Peach preserve very present. Very ripe cooked fruit and some sour. Bit of raisination. I got some pepper on it too.
P: Dry, high alcohol, full body, medium acidity, tannins are medium and silky,(Brandon says medium (+) by running it over the front of your teeth and gums) medium finish, medium (+) intensity.
Joel Peterson, former owner of Ravenswood....when it was good...back in from 80s and 90s created this Once and Future winery. Ageworthy wine here and 113 year old vines.

Guess: Zinfandel. Peach preserve gave it away

B said nobody would mistake it as a Pinot Noir unless it was a Peter Michaels Pinot Noir which is ripe and heavily extracted.

I agree 100% with KDSMITH. Cannot say it any better. Most times, I find that de Negoce wines do not quite live up to Cameron's descriptions, but this one does. Radiant.

I appreciate that they are attempting to produce a lower alcohol, food-friendly wine, but there's no fruit, no flavor interest. Easy pass. Back to the ground it goes . . .

I would expect more from a cab. Smooth tannins but not much complexity. It is an ok wine for everyday drinking. I will not buy it again.

no alcohol content stated on the label; medium-weight foil, composite cork with maximum 4 mm wine penetration; opened, vinturied, and tasted right away at approximately 10 degrees C; nose of sweet/sour cherries, citrus, rhubarb, pears; straightforward rather than ambiguous or complex, full bodied and fruit forward with tannins, sourness & sweetness essentially balanced but with a slight tilt toward sourness; notes of cherries, pears, lichee, tangerines, maybe a little wood; long finish; pair with slow-grilled St Louis pork ribs

A bright and energetic white Bordeaux blend that will benefit from a little time. Yellowish white in color; light in body; nose of grapefruit and minerals. Tastes of lemon, green apple, tangerine, and slate, with a healthy (but not overwhelming) dose of acidity on the finish. 13.9% alcohol. Blend of 80% SB and 20% Semillon, though the latter seems to be taking a back seat at the moment.

I look forward to trying this in a year or two, but this unique blend belongs among the best white blends coming out of CA - better than the versions from Arietta or Blackbird; in the same ballpark as the (cheaper) versions from Massican and Matthiasson; but still not at the level of Morlet's Proportion Doree. Paired with her work at Wayfarer, this winemaker is living up to the hype, from what I can tell.

12/24/2017 9:07:00 AM - I'm confused by the vintage your note relates to. I have a bottle of the 2014 in front of me, but it says 100% SB and lists alcohol at 3.13%.

In any case, it sure sounds delicious.

A disappointing bottle from WineBid.com. It was claimed that the consignor was the original owner, and that it was removed from a proper storage facility, but a bottle with only a couple more than a dozen years to its name was eaten up with VA.

  • Comment posted by ROrmand:

12/20/2017 2:44:00 PM - VA has nothing to do with the original owner or WineBid!

  • Comment posted by ROrmand:

12/21/2017 7:36:00 AM - VA is a winemaking issue not a storage issue. Your phrase "eaten up" is well chosen. It is caused by bacteria. See here:https://winemakermag.com/676-the-perils-of-volatile-acidity

I found this wine at Costco. Price was $7.99 and it bore a label showing that Wine Enthusiast rated it 93 points. That in itself was rather amazing since Wine Spectator had rated the entire 2013 Bordeaux vintage at 84 points, declaring it a "difficult year."

And priced at $7.99? Go figure.

We drank the wine with dinner and our experience was this: No nose, except a slight alcoholic scent. No varietal taste of any kind. No finish. And very thin and watery. We found the wine drinkable, but just on the edge.

I rated it 80 and my wife, 70. Very disappointing, though my wife asked "What do you expect for $7.99?"

Am still puzzled how this wine came to be rated 93 points by Wine Enthusiast and the rating placed on the label. It doesn't inspire confidence in this publication's ratings.

I agree with all the comments. If you have the 2007, you'll love the 2008. It has more structure and a better finish even though it is one year younger. If you want a delicious big Sonoma / Napa Cab -- this is as good as many $100 bottles ...enjoy this winery before they become too well known and raise prices!
