Quite delicious. Aromatically gushing with pear notes and white flower overtones. Crisp pear and some slight hazelnut flavor with a rich fruity finish. My wife claimed it must have some residual sugar.

Beautifully scented with cherry and raspberry fruit along with blood orange notes. Crisp and refreshing despite the 14% alcohol.

I'd love to hear about specific regions and wineries you recommend and if there is someone you could recommend as a wine guide. Perhaps we can see you when we're there and share some Oregon Pinot Noir. If you're interested, email me at sherman.marty@gmail.com. Cheers, Marty Sherman

CT says the drinking window closed in 2020.

Good news - it is drinking beautifully in 2023. Initial hit of alcohol which blew off quickly leaving behind a beautiful nose. Flavor hits of fig and date with a warm, lush mid-plate and nice long finish. Drink up though - I would not push beyond 2025 unless in a larger format bottle.

8/2/2023 11:34:00 AM - Thanks for your recent note on this and on a number of 2012 OR Pinots. I have quite a few '12s left - some are vibrant and others are sadly dead. We recently moved back to the Portland area after my wife retired from the medical field and are looking to find people to help us shrink our cellar. If you want to get together for tastings email me at sherman.marty@gmail.com.

Pale, barely more color than water, nose of Asian pear with an exotic hint of ginger-spice. On the palate subtle white nectarine with bergamot, more spice and chalky minerality. Crisp and classy. $38C retail and tastes like it. Just exceptional for a new world viognier.

My wife and I recently partnered with winemaker Tony Rynders and his wife to buy the old Carlton Cellars, next to Ken Wright's place. Tony followed Ken as Domaine Serene's winemaker for ~10 years before creating Tendril Wine Cellars (and Child's Play Wines). Come visit us in Carlton. I'd love to meet you.

This was great right out of the bottle. Full bodied, great fruit, good if not a tad heavy acidity. Went so well with a pork/teriyaki noodle dinner.
I'll buy this if I can find it again!

Family Blind Pinot Noir Tasting (The homestead): From a family blind tasting, Pinot from anywhere - guess origin, vintage, price.

Wine #2 of 8.

This was my 1st contribution to the tasting. This showed some sulfur stink on the nose after opening, but that blew off quickly. My sister identified this as having some age, and indeed, the nose exhibited some "sweaty sock" and earthy tones. The palate seemed lively though the acidity was only medium, with the earthy-dominant flavors taking the lead. Good complexity and interesting, but what kept this from being exceptional was the weak concentration on the palate. Kind of a weird combination of good depth, but weak concentration of flavor, if that makes sense. Not bad, but just lacking that extra something. Didn't really capture the hearts of anyone at the tasting, myself included. Maybe this is just past prime and on the downhill slide, or perhaps this bottle was slightly off. Tried this the next evening (after vacuum sealing overnight) and it was pretty much the same.

5/15/2023 3:11:00 PM - I think you're right about it being on the downhill slide. I believe it was the last vintage for this own-rooted vineyard prior to replanting after discovering phylloxera. I think the lack of distinction may be due to its deteriorating vineyard origin. Not a good showing from an excellent vintage.

100% estate grown Cabernet Franc that goes through spontaneous and indigenous fermentation. Aged in steel tanks for 8-10 months.
In the glass aromas show a fantastic blend of freshness, fruit and herbaceousness Scents of cherry, goji and brambly raspberry, rubbed herbs, subtle dried floral and subtle white pepper notes follow through with touches of earth and crushed rock.
The wine shines on the palate, textural across the palate with great concentration and purity. Structured with juicy acidity and textured fruit tannins. Crunchy red fruits, herbs, florals, spice and earth flavors. The finish lingers seductively.
Very enjoyable

It took me almost 24 years to revisit this wine, but here we are. First bottle from a four bottle lot purchased at auction in 2020. Level base of neck / very top shoulder. Crumbly cork but removed with relative ease. Carefully and gently decanted with the help of my decanting machine. Light and lively colour, mature but with a bright ruby core; wonderfully expressive and complex nose (cedar, blood orange, sultanas, spices, white nuts, roses, tobacco, blonde caramel), harmonious and with excellent depth; the palate has good volume and a silky-smooth texture, delicately sweet but very fresh and bright, tannins are as good as resolved but continue to provide some grip in the background; relatively dry finish with notes of negroni and boudoir powder. Classical Warre, well on its plateau of maturity, no rush but no further upside either.

12/29/2022 10:26:00 AM - Excellent note. An anniversary year wine for us in a year that was pretty poor everywhere else. A fan of Warre's style but haven't had one recently. This is a great reference.

Wow...ethereal quality...Beautiful brambly nose, some rose petals. In the mouth so light and weightless but with a wonderful depth. Earth, red berries, brambles. Just wonderful wine and can't get over the balance of weightlessness with such a long finish. Need to let my other Fox wines lay sideways for a while.
