Spectacular. Blackberry, blackberry, burnt molasses, menthol, tobacco, slight licorice.

I love this wine because the objective is similar to the Bevan Ontogeny, make the best wine you can for under $100. Russell Bevan crafts this wine with his wonderful touch, with fruit coming from fantastic vineyards and varietals

Absolutely stunning wine. Incredible mouthfeel, velvety and mouthcoating plush tannins. Black cherry, ripe plum, prune, black cherry pipe tobacco and licorice. Three levels deep with a one-minute finish. From 2012-2016 Gargiulo 575 OVX and G Major 7 offering were about as good as Napa produced.

3/27/2024 3:18:00 PM - The '15 was more concentrated and bolder, the '16 was velvety and decadent. Two very good vintages

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

3/28/2024 2:34:00 AM - In my opinion, with a one hour decant, the '15 and '16 OVX's are ready now. The '12 is absolutely in a good place (greatest Garguilo ever made IMHO), the '13 is still a little tight, the '14 is more than ready, the '17 is getting there, the '18 is super tight.

Absolutely stunning wine with a one hour decant. 47% Mourvèdre, 35% Syrah, and 18% Grenache, all putting forth their best characteristics. Seductive entry, velvety tannins, great plush mouthfeel. Dense muddled Marionberry, smokey blueberry, faint sweetened strawberry, anise and slight charcoal. Building depth with time in the glass, this is a polished, classy and hedonistic offering by Scott Hawley. Bravo.

One hour decant. Stunning wine with three levels of depth. Ripe plum, prune, blackberry, bittersweet chocolate, graphite, licorice root. Special wine with 15-20 years of great drinking ahead of it

7/21/2022 - YankeeRobio Likes this wine: 96 points

Classic Napa Cab. Black cherry, licorice, mild cherry pipe tobacco, slight arabica bean coffee. Finish that lasts forever. Perfectly integrated tannins. This is the best Forman I have ever had, beating out the fantastic '08, '12 and '13 vintages.

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

8/22/2022 5:13:00 AM - Yes, I decanted for about an hour, if I remember correctly. Was surprised at how approachable it was, as most Forman's need a little more time in the bottle or air to hit their stride.

2/20/2021 7:10:00 AM - Gave it about 60 minutes of air, and I do aggressively decant, so probably more equal to two hours of air. It is not as stunning as the '15 Hangman, but if you have a few, it is good to go and very enjoyable

Different. Olive juice, lemon rind, cranberry, pomegranate.

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

11/12/2018 5:53:00 PM - I know, wasn't expecting it, but it was there (confirmed by others tasting it). The lemon zest was a good compliment to the cranberry and pomegranate, but it was weird.

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

11/12/2018 6:35:00 PM - Fear not, most others have more "normal' notes, all I can do is taste what I taste. Note, I am a huge Mike Smith (winemaker) fan, I absolutely love, Myriad, Quivet, Carter and Becklyn. This was just different.

Spectacular. Marionberry, cassis, leather.

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

8/15/2018 4:31:00 PM - I've got to tell you, for some reason the 2013 Forman is more in the drinking window right now than the 2012 and the 2008. Usually takes about 10 years for the tannins to settle down and the flavors to explode with other Forman vintages. Last night that was not the case. Stunning wine.

Great GSM. Blueberry, anise, cassis. Rutherford dust mouthfeel. Decadent wine

  • Comment posted by YankeeRobio:

5/2/2018 7:35:00 AM - Decanted for 1 hour. I found both of Keplinger Granache based 2015's were already in the early part of the drink window and drinking wonderfully (Mars and Basilisk). Basilisk was a "knock your socks off" wine. I have a friend who had a 2015 Hangman's Syrah and said it was one of the best wines he has ever had. I am letting my Hangman's and Fuego y Mar's Syrah's sleep a little longer.

Anyone who is a lover of Syrah and has not tried this (or any other Donelan Syrah) is truly missing out. Spectacular wine that has a polished entry, notes of blueberry, blackberry and marionberry. Subtle licorice and and a little pepper on the finish. Bravo!!!

12/11/2017 5:26:00 AM - Not being an expert, I can only go by what Parker/Jeb Dunnuck project on the drink windows. I can tell you, all of the following wines are drink well now, should only get better:

2013 Donelan Cuvee Christine: Parker score of 96+ (2019-2039), Jeb score 96 (2017-2027)
    2013 Donelan Kobler: Parker score 94 (2016-2026), Jeb score 95 (2017-2027)
    2013 Donelan Walker: Parker score 96 (2018-2023), Jeb score 97+ (2017-2033)

These are outstanding wine, Donelan continues to fly under the radar.
