I think I’m a little less taken by this wine than some others who have posted. It is perfectly sound, well balanced acidity, with notes of lemon peel and fine minerals. On the other hand, I don’t think this much rises above the level of Bourgogne Blanc. Perhaps a few years in bottle will serve it well. I don’t detect a hint of oak on it, which might have added interest and richness. But it was a fine accompaniment to our dinners over 2 nights. I just think that I’d far rather drink a dureuil Janthial or a Ferret for a few bucks less.

Guess I’ll start the bidding here. Firstly surprised it’s 2014 as it drinks much younger, with verve and tension upon open. Nose had hints of pear and apple, palate much sterner. Took a while (1~2) hours to start opening a bit - ginger then some of the pine and hazelnut that is often sought after. You won’t be disappointed trying now, but if not for science still best to wait. Compared to Bouchard RDJ ‘21 (just because that’s the last memorable champ I had), this is way more serious, grown up in a way, and not immediately impressionable. RDJ was much better now, but I’m excited about where this could go. Think there’s potential for 2-3 points of upside

In a pretty good spot, on the barn side of things with some manure, tobacco, and cigar. Tannins almost fully integrated. Personally liked the ‘97 Napa a bit more but this was pretty good

Apparently a bottle en mag exclusively for the US market...that's neat! I actually didn't get too much of that whole cluster crunch from this. The wine is accessible and decently pretty, but not particularly memorable. I would liken this to a good reference point introduction to the Fourrier style and to quality Chambolle (despite Fourrier being in Gevrey and making Chambolle-like Gevrey's lol). Doesn't have the special sour cherry sauce that Fourrier's can provide, likely partially to do with the vintage. Good, not great, pleasant drink.

An unexpected no. 2 was Les Chantereines with 93+. Usually my favourite from Selosse is Les Carelles which this time ended with 92, the same as Chemin de Chalon. All these Top Four cuvees are BdB.
This wine: I was disappointed. Pale gold color. Notes of ripe apple and hay, nutty. A rustic experience.

This is more a caricature of Coche than a tribute to Coche with extreme levels of reduction that have some appeal on the nose, but the reduction almost completely shuts down the palate. Lacking any balance that adds dimension and interest to the reduction, to the point of a flawed wine, but I believe this is what the winemaker is attempting to pull off.

This was advertised by a famous wine shop in NY as a once in a lifetime chance to own a baby Cros Parentoux, going the extra mile by adding an aerial picture with the cros parentoux and Les barreaux plots highlighted in photoshop as the not to miss topographic opportunity of this decade. As prices soar, retailers are becoming increasingly creative to sell wine. It is true that les Barreaux, like Champs Perdrix in Vosne deserve a special attention. But they are Village wines, and 100 feet by Burg standards is a million miles elsewhere. The trace of rusticity behind the plummy and spicy character is a reminder of its level, but this is still a very good hedonistic Vosne, for my taste I'd want more energy and freshness.

Agree there is nuance to the particular words they use, but other than the emails for the obvious producers that end up being way overpriced, it's just boy who cried wolf for me. Right on opening this was so welcoming in the playful and fruit forward Lienhardt style. Bing cherry in a slightly hot package, evidently whole cluster and so easy to down in copious amounts. Almost too easy that I worried about the longevity of the wine. Strangely enough a few hours after opening the wine shut a bit, acid coming more to the fore in the palate and oak slightly more noticeable - negating my prior concerns about longevity. If you're going to drink this, drink it quickly upon open or wait a few years. Well done effort

Wasn’t planning to drink it but got curious…wow still held together with a more complex nose of feminine red and blue berries. Palate slightly tired as past the point of integration of acidity…but surprised this even lasted that long. Won’t be touching my bottles for at least 3-4 more years

This is the most boring, insipid, lame and weak Oregon Pinot Noir I've ever had the displeasure of paying for... and I paid way too much for this swill which makes me rather angry. It's terrible in so many ways... but lets focus on the Positive for now: it tastes like a very poor New Zealand Pinot Noir -- the type of crap you'd find in a gas station or drug store. Now for the Negatives: no structure, no earthiness, no sense of terroir, slightly bitter and the acids are far too high. I've bought 6 bottles based upon a recommendation which proved to be a horrible decision. I've opened 4 bottles and all have been dreadful and nearly worthless. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!!!

Better than I had expected. Decently deep nose of blue and red fruits. The main negative was the noticeable level of alcohol on the finish. Palate is quite one-dimensional but manages to stay "taught" and "fresh". A decent daily drink if you're really stretching on budget

  • Comment posted by burgconvert:

2/14/2023 12:15:00 PM - Unfortunately, my experience with Gamay is a bit limited. From what I've been recommended, Foillard's Cote du Py is supposed to age well and you can find it for under $40 (I picked them up but not going to open young). I would also consider Boheme's Taylor Ridge - more fruit given it's Sonoma, but it's the highest elevation plot so cooler fruit in general that belies the CA designation when young - believe its $50 or so

Patience still needed here as it took 1.5 hours to open up. On pop, it was surprisingly ripe for a 2017. But cooled off with time, going through some menthol and varnish notes before settling with a bit of classic vosne spice, cherry, and a dash of rose and peony. Palate was good but not amazing. Not worth the market price imo but a solid villages for those who can get at release price

Not sure what other people are raving about as this is way too young to warrant some of the super glowing reviews. Hype aside for Bouchard, I struggled to enjoy drinking this as I felt like I was flushing $100 down the drain for the privilege of a Selosse disciple

The wine itself was interesting. Straight apple upon opening and over the course of a few hours showed hints of raw dough, flint, and even some pineapple. But the glimpses of scent were fleeting and left me vigorously swirling in my burgundy glass just hoping something more would show through...nothing more. The palate imo was the best part of this. It's big yet restrained and sends tingles all around the mouth. It tires in bottle quickly, however so you either get some olefactory satisfaction or the nice palate, but not both at the same time

Less than 24 months on lees so technically not a vintage wine, this could be interesting in 10 years, but for $200-$250 market price now...no thank you

  • Comment posted by burgconvert:

9/26/2022 7:01:00 AM - Thanks for the insight - I must have gotten confused having seen so many articles and posts talking about Selosse and Bouchard in the same vein that perhaps I assumed incorrectly that he was a disciple. I do hope to try some of his other parcels that spend more time on lees before coming to a conclusion on Bouchard in aggregate

In no surprise, this was an entirely different wine compared to the L'Espirit. The Solera use really shows through as it shows off more rounded tones of toast, brioche, biscuits, red apples, quince, chamomile, nougat, frosted vanilla, spiced pears, green tea, and yellow flowers. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced and textured with tart, high acidity. This is a recent release, though I didn't catch the disgorgement date or base vintage. I'm certainly a fan of this as its a great Champagne that is quite different from the other main Champagnes from Pierre Peters.

This was much better than heritage No. 15 but there are still many wines in this price range that I would rather have. Nose was decently pretty but more sonoma in style than burgundian. Acid still needs to resolve on the palate. Goodfellow has been getting a lot of hype as of late but I've yet to see what it's all about - am I trying the wrong parcels?

An extremely enjoyable Champagne from one of my favorite growers. This is a big step up from the Cuvée de Réserve in terms of richness and complexity. I was very impressed, and although it is about double the price, it is definitely worth it in my estimation. There is a golden richness, roundness and toasty nuttiness that is beautifully balanced by fine acidity and minerality. The bubbles were also very caressing and not aggressive at all. I would definitely buy this Champagne again. Absolutely delicious.
