This time it was absolutely incredible! Still a pure, ornate and strong acidity but this time with a completely different maturity of the fruit and complexity of the flavours. Some ripe, acidous apple. Mineral bite from heaven. Lovely silky, slightly oily texture. Fresh, summery, elegant and rich. So good! Josef Jamek gets 10/10, incredible quality for the money.

Rounded feel makes it universally appealing whilst the grapefruit & phenolic bitterness reveals its grüve identity.

Well made but not very exciting.

Bit of light honey color, theres some moderate petrol on the nose; quite rich and lush, particularly for a 13, but this is Jamek, so I believe the 14% abv on the label. Has some density and viscosity, to match the voluptuous nature of the palate. Plenty of acidity to provide balance. Quite delicious, if lying at somewhat of an extreme on the spectrum of Austrian Riesling. Need to remember to pull one of these as a match to Thankskgiving dinner.

Lovely clear yellow color, richly aromatic, mouth filling and caressing, delicious, and highly distinctive, with a long and resonating finish. Superb illustration why Gruner Veltliner is one of Austria's greatest wines. Uniquely wonderful with many green vegetables.

The color has moved from yellow to gold, but the wine exhibits no sign of oxidation. Bright, vivid nose of lemon grass and ginger. Rounded but still firmly acidic taste that is refreshingly citric. Yet the mouthfeel is wonderfully fuller bodied and caressing instead of just mouth cleansing. Superb match with foods that often baffle wines, such as green peas, Brussels sprouts, kale, amaranth, dandelion, and Swiss chard.

Austrian Estate Visits; 9/13/2023-9/15/2023 (In and around the Wachau valley): Same dull yellow color. Deeper, complex aromas of pear and subtle botanical herbs. Serious and dry, concentrated peach in the mouth. Very good acidity, but an excellent, resonant finish that is chock full of soil. Glossy but not fat at all. The best wine in the range of thing we tasted, and potentially outstanding.

Lovely dry Riesling, beautiful and delicate aromas of crunchy green melon, white peach, green apple, lime, cucumber, and intricate subtle floral and herbal tones. On the palate this is softer than I anticipated, layers of fresh fruit, integrated minerality, buried acidity, I was expecting a little more cut and drive from acid, but this does not lack for freshness. Long and coating finish, but not at all heavy. Probably quite a bit more interesting in 3 to 5 years.

I was very much looking forward to trying this wine, and it was good but not amazing. Comes out of the bottle a medium yellow amber, quite age appropriate. Nose is initially quite shy, with just the slightest amount of fruit showing through but upon sitting in the glass for a good hour, it developed some very interesting notes of mushroom, sunflower and anise. These all strike me as very secondary notes for a wine that is just six years old, so the elements seemed a bit misplaced. But as the night wore on, the wine built up a more traditional backbone of lemon, chalk and even petrol, though in fairly small amounts. This wine maker is super highly regarded and unavailable in the USA so my review is a bit superfluous but I was expecting slightly better, but overall very good effort. Hope to see your wine in NYC soon to try more.

13,5% alcohol.

Quite pale lemon-yellow color. The nose feels rather ripe and slightly evolved with complex, somewhat sweet-toned aromas of sweet apricot-driven stone fruits, some bruised pear notes, a little bit of crunchy quince, light honeyed nuances, a hint of sweet grapey fruit, a touch of pineapple and a whiff of dried peach. The wine feels quite ripe, rather concentrated and slightly oily on the palate with a medium-to-moderately full body and very intense flavors of ripe tangerine, some extracted waxy character, a little bit of quince jam, light evolved notes of bruised pear and dried apricots, a hint of apple jam and a touch of cloudberries. The overall feel is big yet not really heavy - the wine is surprisingly light on its feet, at least for its size. The rather high acidity lends good sense of balance and structure to the wine. The quite complex finish is dry, juicy and slightly oily with a ripe, subtly sweet-toned aftertaste of apricots, some bruised pear, a little bit of acacia honey, light stony mineral notes, a hint of quince jam and a touch of ripe cloudberries.

This was a rather big and quite concentrated yet still remarkably balanced Smaragd Grüner Veltliner that never once came across as too big or heavy despite its size. It is starting to show some developed qualities, emphasizing some sweeter dried-fruit qualities and honeyed tones over the more youthful characteristics, but the wine doesn't feel particularly evolved yet. Maybe it is getting middle-aged now? At least it feels like there is still lots of room for further development - even if the wine is pretty impressive and thoroughly enjoyable already now. A great example of the classic 2013 vintage. This was a good purchase at 18,70€.

Dry and with pretty high acid. The alcohol isn't that well integrated. Tastes of lime peel, green apples, seeds and pear. On the first day it was buttery up front (disappeared on day two). The taste length is medium+.
There is no way I'd be able to identify this as a Grüner without the bottle (and I've lived in Austria).
