Decanted to remove sediment. Opened quickly with a classic Pauillac nose of cassis, cedar, cigar ash, and a pleasing vegetal funk. Not quite as engaging in the mouth, however. Red cherry, sous bois, and charcoal with a bold attack but finishing somewhat thin. Lacked stuffing. Was hoping for more.

무엇보다도 신선한 산미와 구조감의 조화가 매우 매력적인 보르도. 보르도가 항상 이렇다면 얼마나 좋을까. 집 나간 까쇼에 대한 취향도 돌아올텐데.

From the first moment it gets poured into the glass, you smell the Bordeaux soil, with some touches of leather and spice. The taste is big and fresh, driven by blackcurrant, cherries at first, then the earthy, leathery and spicy flavors take over, with some tannins showing as well. Will probably improve over the next few years, but drinks very nicely now!

From a 375mL, this half bottle proves again the quality of the 2000 vintage for lesser Grand Crus and Cru Bourgeois. Though I prefer 2001 generally, 2000 is certainly a great and reliable vintage.

The 2000 Haut-Bages Liberal really has everything you could ask for in a aged Pauillac with red and black fruits, oak, cigar, and cedar. It drinks smooth, with resolved tannins, good concentration, and a nice finish. Dare I say I was more impressed with this wine then a recent half of 2000 Margaux, supposedly one of the wines of the vintage. This bottle delivers on what Bordeaux does best, which is to demonstrate that Cabernet is indeed the King of ageability and what rewards aging a Grand Vin can provide.

Perhaps, I just got lucky, but unlike prior tasting notes, this wine seems to have 10 more years, though I'd drink it now for my taste.

The 2016 iteration of Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a deep-to-opaque ruby blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, aged for 16 months in French oak barriques (40% new). Flaunting an intense aromatic array of cassis, Montmorency cherries, lavender, coriander, pencil shavings and cocoa, it is a medium-bodied, freshly acidic red with well-integrated alcohol (13.5%) and flavors that mirror the nose. At this stage, the plentiful tannins are silky-textured, yielding to the oak component that has not yet fully assimilated. Layered in the middle and concluding with a lengthy, mineral-laden finish, this rivals the 2019 as the best version of Haut-Bages Libéral that I have ever tasted. Give it a bit more time in the cellar to allow the oak to meld. Tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been decanted off of its sediment and then Vinturi-decanted, this showed best after the first two hours in carafe. Drink 2026-2046.

👃 Ripe Orange & potpourri

👅 Medium-bodied (ABV 12.5%) with velvety structure, lively acidity (m+), underripe orange on the palate and on the medium finish.

📝 Low intensity on the nose and palate. There aren’t really any tertiary notes and with its tannin structure and acidity, perhaps this wine needs even more cellar time?

Enjoyed after a long day of back-country skiing. I’d planned to drink this wine during @Aaron Blazer’s zoom, but the kids were waiting in the wood-fired sauna, so I had to bail.

Medium reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty & herbal notes, some floral notes, tobacco, minerals & cedar in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but even at 9 years of age, it should continue to develop further with additional aging.

Opens up with scents of cherry and coals, has a soft and elegant feel, picks up some richness with air, flavors hint at crunchy blackberry, cassis, graphite and charred meat, finish just keeps creeping, well balanced, continues to open in the glass, a short decant is reasonable, drinking well

Maybe not the most complex of showings, but the 2010 fruit is really driving this with a fresh and clean acidity and mouthfeel that gives this wine a young vibe even though its developed on the nose and shows some tertiary aromas. Drinks now but will develop from here and be better in 5+ years.

I thought this had everything going for it. I’ve drunk 4 bottles of this vintage brfote and all were excellent. Quite surprised as 2008 didn’t have a great reputation. Certainly enjoyed more than most of the 2009 clarets I’ve had which seem slightly blowsy in comparisons n

The aroma on this wine is very nice, earthy, dark fruits, some savory notes, a slight pleasing floral note.
On the palate, tannin is very high, everything else is relatively balanced. So much better than the 2018. Alc at 14.5% and well masked.

Appearance: Ruby red, with a somewhat see-through veneer
Aroma: Violets, old raspberries, pepper, and a bit of black tea.
Palate: Quite mellow at this age, with some bit of a tannic finish. I also do get some of that dark fruit and leather aspect in the taste as well.

Unless you only like the riper, more robust type of wines, this is a wine for everybody. The nose, like the palate, leans more towards red fruits than black fruits, which is surprising for a Pauillac but not for HBL. Quite attractive aromas and tastes of red cherry and redcurrant, with some more usual blackcurrant. Medium-bodied, decent acidity, fruity but not OTT, well-balanced and definitely promising. A better version of the 2001.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow": Pauillac and St. Julien (By me @ the factory): Uncorked the day before the tasting and double decanted approx. 3 hours prior to the tasting.Beautiful and complex bouquet with e.g. dark berries and graphite. On the palate also dark berries and lead pencil, minerals, juicy and beautiful acidity and round tannin with still a firm and lovely bite. Beautiful and complex wine in its young maturity stage. Textbook Pauillac. I love it. 92 – 93

Just testing the waters here. I double decanted this 24 hours before we had it. Opened it up and it was still pretty nervy but approachable with food. Nice seromas of Cassius, a little bit Of dark red fruit. The pallet was a solid medium bodied with pretty persistent cannons. Dark fruit, cocoa, cassis. We got into dinner. It was pretty pleasant to drink, and I enjoyed it as everybody else.

Pop and pour. First impressions…not really a classic Pauillac nose, a bit murky. Palate is unexpectedly warm, mellow and then a wall of tannin. Quite interesting, not wonderful but not bad either.

I’ll update this later.
