Barsac Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more

Chateau Climens' 2nd label wine, made out of 100% Semillon with my favorite fungus, botrytis. I believe the last two recent vintages for this label were only 2019 and 2016.

Visually, a slightly muted golden color.

The scents - tropical fruits, fresh flowers - indulgent on the nose. This scent should be a candle.

The palate - now here those same fruits jump out at you. Mango, pineapples. Savory honey. A fresh batch of fruit jam. Faint orange, and as much peach/apricot as the 2015 Suduiraut I last had. Viscous. Decently long finish, but not as eternal as a Sauternes.

Impressed, if this is a second label!

Demi-bouteille.
Ample et gras mais doté d`un bel équilibre.
Sur les pêches et les ananas avec un peu
de caramel salé comme disait l'autre!!!
Bel équilibre acidité-sucre-botrytis.
Hyper long et décadent en finale.
Sublime!

All wine, no poker, Vol. 2 (Needham, Mass.): Thanks to Phillip: This wine still tastes young, not particularly sweet, with a nice slash of refreshing acidity, and an array of flavors that are more herbal than fruity. This is a non-decadent Barsac, which provided a lively accompaniment for a mango-mousse cake.

Tasted at LaLou as the dessert. There was grapefruit and orange marmalade on the palate along with the honey and apricot, lively acidity, long finish. Barsac seems to be lighter in body than Sauternes, but delicious in most of the same ways. This is the second wine of Chateau Climens, I'd like to taste the two wines together some time.

Light to medium yellow colour. Fresh, elegant, honeyed, with good balance of sweetness and acidity and good length. Attractive now, but with potential for further improvement.

Medium deep gold color. Full nose of apricots, honey and caramel. Sweet, rounded acidity, palate follows through. Medium full body. Very good balance. Medium finish. A good Sauternes, lush and not cloying, but unfortunately with no evolution

Straw color. Honey, creme fraiche, and subtle caramel on the rich nose. Super smooth, viscous palate, with vibrant acidity and lively sweetness.

This is one of the more unique white dessert wines I’ve had. It’s essentially a Sauternes, but not labeled as such because it is in neighboring Barsac.

2nd wine of Ch. Climens. Lovely floral aromas with apricot, peach, honey and some grape fruit in the finish. Sweet and delicous in the mouth. Still some sharp grape fruity though, and the wine would probably benefit of some years in the cellar to achieve the classic Sauternes elegance.

A rich, green-tinged darkening gold.
Gorgeous, honeyed nose with beurre noisette, butter toffee and orange.
Luscious, rich attack. Sweet, yet also very fresh, with a lovely acidity keeping it thoroughly balanced. Deep and concentrated with a caramelised orange note, and an almost broad bean freshness. Haunting length.

caveat..my first sauternes..
golden honey with a pale almost white rim..
on the nose: honey, roasted nuts, and a little VA.. blew off pretty quickly.
palate: honey, Ginger, Spice maybe some baked /roasted nuts.. hint of bitterness like a walnut.. not as sweet as expected but solid.. medium plus body.. finish is long with a fair amount of acidity.. still has a long way to go.. this may be in the teenager stage.. this was opened with a coravin so the rest of the bottle will sit for a while maybe till fall and then we will see what it is like.

This wine seems just right for current drinking. It has a fairly deep yellow colour, almost gold. The palate is quite rich, with notes of orange marmalade and butterscotch, and good length. Very good for a second wine.

From a half bottle.

Second Sauternes or more Barsac of the week, strange :)

The wine shows a light evolution, golden, and has still exotics and honey at the same time, balanced and long enough to be called a great wine, with a lot to go still.

great acidity still and that is important to all the haters, Sauternes and more over Barsac are great wines, drinkable and refined, all the one I ve had so far are still very enjoyable and the balance is there with a great acidity to enhance the style and balance the power !

From 500 ml. Lovely golden orange hue. Not quite the intensity of the first wine, but lovely nose of apricot, hazelnut and caramel. Nice sweet apricot and honey fruit with lovely viscous texture. Just missing a little bit of the acidic counter balance of the regular Climens, but a lovely after dinner drink.

Six years after the prior: Dark amber. Quite viscous. Essence of savory/sweet apricot. We agree with some notes below, it could use additional acidity — but still it was sufficiently fresh and quite enjoyable over two nights. (Paired very nicely as an aperitif with spicy prawns; 375.)

Hopefully it’s going through a dumb phase.

Color was getting darker gold, or a very yellowish light brown. Aromas will fool you; Jasmine and apricots abound upon opening but after a few seconds in the glass, only the faintest bit of honey can be found. It’s moderately sweet. Flavour wise there wasn’t a whole lot going around. Some peach and honey but with a flavour profile that I could only correlate to the cheaper Rieslings of the 90s. Absolutely no finish. The more it sat in the glass, the more it’s characteristics seemed to dissipate.

I’m holding out hope that it’s just sleeping and a true beauty will show itself in due time. Sadly that wasn’t today.
