Deep golden in the glass. Blast of flint on the nose, the beautiful opok soils instantly recognisable. Rich stone fruit in all forms, faint hints of meadow flowers as well. Medium-bodied with high acidity that brings up the fruit to shine. Long, flinty finish. What a great producer.

Old world style Chard, made in style of a Jura white. Some oxidative notes, lemon curd, green apples and quite fresh.

If I were calling this blind, I would say Bruyere Houillon Chardonnay. Really intensely acidic, somehow lemony and buttery at the same time. Natty but absolutely clean. No way could I tell this was a Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blend nor its Austrian origins - does this mean it's lacking in terrior??

Either way if you are into the hype Jura whites, natty-style chenin etc. save some money and get some of this.

Deep and bright gold. Flinty, smoky at the start slowly giving way to grapefruit and lemon aromas followed by herbal undercurrents. Full of life with vivid citrus flavours and a distinct saline tang. Full and creamy in texture as a result of the time spent on its fine lees. Very long and lively on its finish.

There are cool elements here - sweaty carnal nose and musky fruit. But the profile is way too lean and the acidic ... boring acidic aspect dominates and leaves me wholly non plussed.

Gorgeous orange color in the glass. Smells like freshly squeezed orange juice, but the palate is much milder compared to the Freude. Could be the vintage, could be the blend, but I’d definitely pay 10 bucks more to drink Freude over this.

A blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from cool-climate Styria. Pours deep amber in the glass. Tropical blast on the nose - mango, melon, ripe pineapple, papaya. The palate is marked with rough tannins still, but has a wonderful acidity to counteract this. As the wine warms up it starts reminding me of orange bacardi, so keep this slightly chilled if you don’t want to start drinking adult fruit punch. Still one of the greatest orange wines you can find. Insane value.

I like this producer, not because is a natural wines' producer, but because his wines are very good. However, this one is still young. It will get better in the coming years. If I drink it now, decanting it for 30-60 min seems interesting.

Sehr trüb. Tels noch hefereste. Der wein ist also definitiv nicht gefiltert. Gelb-olive farbe. Leichter naturweinstinker. Vor allem vegetabile aromen, aber auch reife gelbe Früchte. Etwas noisette. Trocken, mittlere Säure, mittlerer Körper und Abgang

In a better place than the 2019, these wines really dont age well. its tart and thin, with lemon dominating the palate but none of the minerality density or pleasure of chardonnay. its just a VA and EA bomb. natty

The fill level was lower than expected but the cork seemed fine. Once opened, the colour was darker than expected, like apple juice. On the nose, the smell of apple cider vinegar was dominant. I hope only this bottle went bad.

7/16/2022 - MQuentel@web.de wrote: 92 points

When natural wines came up, I always had some concerns about aging. After this week already the "Felsen II", a single-varietal Syrah from Christian Tschida has delivered top after 10 years, the "2007 Ex Vero II Spätfüllung (Late Release)" from the winery "Werlitsch" fell into my hands in the cellar. Another 5 years more on the hump, but not a bit tired. This is great stuff with plenty of elegance and complexity. The cuvée of about 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Chardonnay (Morillon) was in this late filling 5 years in the barrel, so 3 years longer than the normal "Ex Vero II". I also assume that the wine was on the lees longer; the structure, depth and freshness of the wine after 15 years are excellent. Aromatically, this is a wonderful play of apricot and peach tart with grated, highly ripe citrus peel, shortbread and delicate pear. The ripe acidity is wonderfully vital and together with the slightly salty minerality this makes for an excellent, balanced and ingratiating wine. 92/100 2022 - 2026

Alk. 12,5%. Chardonnay 90%, Sauvignon blanc 10%. Bin heute echt angetan! (93)

A blend of Sauvignon Blanc (~90%) and Chardonnay (~10%). The grapes are sourced from the steep mid-slope (Ex Vero I comes from the lower parts of the slope, Ex Vero III from the top part of the vineyard). The grapes are crushed and left to macerate for a few days until the spontaneous fermentation is in full speed. Aged on the lees in old, large oak barrels for 2 years, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Vinified and bottled without any sulfites. 12,5% alcohol.

Youthful, slightly hazy yellow-green color. Rich, sweet and rather lifted nose with aromas of juicy apricots, some ripe Golden Delicious apple, a little bit of nail polish VA, light honeyed tones, a hint of green tea, a bretty touch of leathery funk and a vinegary whiff of pickle juice. The wine is wild, ripe and lively on the palate with a medium body and somewhat concentrated flavors of ripe yellow stone fruits, some passion fruit, a little bit of honeydew melon, light volatile notes of nail polish remover, a hint of apple jam and a vinegary touch of pickle juice. The wine is pretty structured with its high acidity, yet the mouthfeel is quite concentrated and oily due to the ripeness and extraction. The finish is wild, long and somewhat lifted with flavors of honeyed richness, some acetic VA, a little bit of ripe peach, light sweet nuances of apple jam, a hint of cantaloupe and a touch of papaya. The elevated levels of VA lend a bit of acetic roughness in the throat.

A big, concentrated and characterful Sauvignon Blanc (blend) that is quite idiosyncratic in style and quite different from that typically clean and focused style of Südsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc. Overall the wine showed great sense of depth, complexity and power, but unfortunately the level of VA was a bit higher than I'd prefer, making the wine feel a bit too lifted and natty for my preference. If there weren't that heavy nail polish notes in the nose and the aftertaste hadn't that acetic touch of vinegary roughness, this would've been a very lovely wine indeed. This was still quite an enjoyable effort, but, ultimately, not a bullseye. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side at 28€.
