Nice mix of tropical peach and ripe lemon citrus fruits. Vanilla and ginger from what feels like a fairly strong whack of oak. Some creaminess but good acid keeps things tight, not flabby.
Best Chardonnay I can remember having at this price point, definitely punches up. The oak being a touch heavy-handed is the main sign to me that this is not at flagship level but it's a minor complaint.

Always fun to 'disprove' theories... I have long felt that well made NZ Sauvignon (which in general I do not particularly like) keeps really well - and this proves the point. 16 years old and delicious. Dark yellow, mature fruits. Very tasty indeed, and NO sign of oxidation (stelvin....). Lovely.

Sunday afternoon on son's Birthday , i wanted to put my thoughts on this very good winery and having Salmon Filets for dinner too.

On opening we have Straw Lemon in colour with a lite lemon rim at Dec 2023... Nice as expected..
Again on opening we have leaping of of the glass lovely typical Marlborough ripe fruit flavours without the nasties.. Clean tropical fruit flavours . Nice but ready to enjoy for certain.
On the palate we have ripe similar flavours upfront , some bottle developing characters on mid palate , which worries me alot at this age , and nice maturing fruit finish without too much acid so gives good length with clean acidity. Interesting i may say . Not quiet what i expected as i expected more freshness anyway , you must enjoy over the next 6 months best in my opinon. This will not keep. Drink up..
Good On premise style but not so cheap ok. Qpr $15 max

Smells and Tastes like a 1cru Puligny from a decent producer. Nose in particular is convincing. This wine is their premium chard from standard… which is also very good. Notes from the producer are fairly accurate
…….notes of gun smoke and struck match, complemented by white peach and nectarine. Wholemeal, cracked pepper and savoury notes add to the complexity of this wine. Grapefruit and lime notes give the palate poise and restraint and complement the hints of French oak.

yellow gold hue. intense flavours combined with nutty, spicy, oak, vanilla and brioche. full body, round and creamy texture, solid acidity. rich and completed structure. long finish with slightly sea salt mineral and yeasts notes. will integrate better in the next 3-5 years.

A serious Chardonnay, opulent, intense and complex. consistently gold winner in NZ local wine competitions.

Top notch NZ Chardonnay; I've drunk the 17 before and loved it. The 18 is not quite reaching the same lofty heights yet but no doubt will improve with time.

The nose is all cap gun and flint at first, with layers of stone fruit and pineapple coming through. Extended time on lees and malo gives another dimension of brioche & cream. I'm getting some almonds too. The palate is rich with lush peaches & nectarines, vanilla and toast, and finishes with kaffir lime and almonds.

Marlborough chardonnay at its best.

Terroir-istes International - New Zealand Pinot Noir & Sauvignon Blanc (Rodwell House): Pale yellow straw the nose bursts with English gooseberries, tinned pea and granadilla. The entry is all sherbet with edgy acidity and light body. Well-balanced fruit and acid, if simple wine, delivers classic Marlborough flavours.

Luminous ruby colour, nose of rose, raspberry leaf.
Pure black cherry flavours, earthy tannins with some interesting savoury flavours developing in the background - black olive, beetroot, cinnamon and star anise. More backloaded than NZ PNs I’ve tried recently, no bad thing.

Monday, March 05, 2001 Initially a strong smell of grass and sulphur that fortunately blew off quickly. This pale sunlight wine had a nose of lemon grass, herbs and minerals. The initial taste was quite sharp and acidic, searing the sides of the tongue. Pleasantly however, the wine settled down and delivered a wonderful lemon-grass, mineral and basil flavor with a smoky finish. A rich mouthfeel with plenty of glycerol. A solid wine if a bit acidic. If you cannot have Cloudy Bay this will do. With roasted garlic on baguette and bacon/blue cheese salad with lemony caesar dressing. 3/5/01. Due to the smokiness it will be good with grilled fish, fish with lemon and basil butter and other such combinations.

Tuesday, August 01, 2000 This is no wimpy quaffer and you know it from the first pour. A rich straw, not golden, but straw color with a tinge of green on the edge. A nose of mineral, lemon, boxwood and an ever so slight grass scent. On the palate a good structure of acid extends the initial fruit tastes of pineapple, mineral, lemon/citrus and boxwood until it fades into just the mineral flavors are left. A hefty mouthfeel for a sauvignon blanc. Purchased last year as a substitute for Cloudy Bay. While an excellent wine, it is not Cloudy Bay as it lacks all the complexities of CB. Nevertheless, a wine to look for in the future. With crabcakes and avocado salad 8/1/00.
Sunday, December 16, 2001 A weeper, but the wine remained undamaged. Gold-yellow in color. Nose of grapefruit and boxwood. On the palate, rich ripe ruby red grapefruit. Wonder boxwood and mineral aftertaste. The acidity that stood out so much in the last bottle is now a pleasant quality, providing structure and life to the wine. Very nice. With savory bacon and tomato ’pancake’. As we watched Miracle on 34th St.
Tuesday, June 04, 2002 The cork appears to be a weeper - not noticed until opening. Pale yellow-gold. Nose of gooseberry, citrus and a slight boytroisized note. Petrol, grass and white grapefruit on the palate. With roasted chicken breast with a grape and fig chutney. Wine is terrible with the chutney, but very nice with the jucies of the chutney. Note: this SB is not nearly as good with chevre; it lacks the zing that Sancerre has.
Sunday, August 11, 2002 A clean silver-gold color. A nice nose of lemon zest, boxwood, mineral and tropical fruit. Much the same flavor notes, but with maybe some corn notes as well. Nicely balanced with the acidity much more in line with the other notes than when first tasted in August of 2000. Unfortunately, some of the smokiness has faded. Yet this remains a crisp and vibrant wine. With crab and asparagus salad.

Deep red-pink color. Fairly highly carbonated. Fruity, like cherry and apple juice with watermelon Jolly Rancher, citrus peel and aperitivo elements. Just off dry. A bit lacking in acid. Not much interest but a fun, juicy beverage, tastes almost like it has Aperol or something already in it but adding more doesn't seem like a bad idea, seems like fun spritz material.

From screw cap, undecanted, about 30 minutes open in a Riedel Burg glass.

The numeric score reflects the Cellar tracker rating system, so it means I think this wine is very good and noting the price about as good as one has any right to expect.

For a budget Pinot, you are getting good quaffing. I don't like the oak treatment, which provides too much smokiness/char and some distracting (to me) pencil shaving, as well as some oak derived 'lift'. This wine has just been released and with a few months it may settle down and integrate more. The palate yields a bit more fruit than the oak encased nose- dark cherry and there is admirable persistence and intensity. How you feel about oak will determine how you feel about this wine, at this point at least. I will add that I have been accosted by plenty of Burgundy that is of Village level or higher that is no better than this (but a damned sight more expensive) and is just as reliant on oak and extraction to cover for fruit of moderate/quaffing wine quality.
