2013 La Viarte Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino Riservamore |
12/16/2023 - penguinoid Likes this wine: NRIntense garnet. Plum, black cherry, black plum, mulberry. Fruit leather. Hint of cedar, nutmeg, dark cocoa. Slightly earthy - Warm earth - on the nose. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium bodied. Medium intensity. Quite fruity still, but with an interesting hint of tertiary character. |

Some people get anise from Friulano, but this one was more earthy. People think I go around licking rocks, but have you ever gone outside just after a fresh spring rain and inhaled deeply through your nose? |

11/24/2023 - chatters wrote: NRInitially on opening this was still showing quite a lot of oak on the nose - all vanilla and caramel with a smidge of milk chocolate mocha that rather bullied the fruit. After a quick decant, though, the roles were reversed with plenty of dark hued fruits showing. In the mouth it's all about the tannins - both grape and wood derived, dense and drying, a little chalky and with a touch of minerality, the black fruits are supported by a touch of olive and liquorice. Long, pretty good. |

7/10/2022 - TannicBeast Likes this wine: 91 pointsPleased to be tasting this again after several years. Deep ruby w/ a garnet hue. Med+ black cherry, red cherry, black plum, earth, tobacco and some sweet baking spices. 1 yr in 1st - 6th use French barriques. Developing. Dry, but w/ plenty of ripe fruit for 12 yrs of age. Med+ acidity, med smooth tannins and med alcohol (13%). Med-bodied, w/ med+ flavor intensity and length, it really shines with fatty and flavorful meats. It is still drinking surprisingly well but showing more tertiary characteristics. Comparable to a aged Right Bank Bordeaux. Solid QPR. |

6/30/2021 - Shinji K Likes this wine: 96 pointsSmoky and ripe blue berries, the nose is more leathery than fruity, classy. Beautiful palate of dry fig, leather, and wood. High acid and noticeable tannin but very integrated. Lingering incense note and long finish. Very nicely aged. Good to drink now and next 5 years. |

6/25/2021 - Elycohn Likes this wine: 92 pointsTazzelenghe is for explorers - a foresty wine for foresty people. This rare grape is native Fruilian and an idiosyncratic combination of many things we know well. A nose of ripe blackberries, mint and menthol, forest floor, leather, and dark chocolate fudge. Big ripe chewy tannins so obvious, they make you wonder what a decade would do. Flavors of a blackberry mint Julep. |

5/2/2021 - TannicBeast Likes this wine: 88 pointsRuby with a garnet rim. The nose is smoky, with aromas of red fruit, cured meat, mushrooms and compost. Aged in barriques for 12 mos. Dry palate, but with more fruit than the nose. Med to med (+) acidity, med alcohol (12.5%) and medium, silky tannins. There's a slightly peppery and bitter finish. Although well-balanced, this wine has shown a fair amount of bottle variation over the years. In this bottle, the tertiary aromas override the fruit. Overall, I would say drink up. |

8/30/2020 - Tranquility Base Likes this wine: 89 pointsQuite a vibrant (I guess the word might be "racy") wine. It was different from other Pinot Grigios I've had. It leaned more toward the dry and acidic than plump and fruity. Which is fine: Often, Pinot Grigio is too fruity and thick and lacks that racy quality. This wine has it. |

Quite different even though both are 13.5% abv. The Italian version has much more bright apple, pear, and citrus fruit, a higher acidity, minerality, and more structural balance. About 2/3rds of the class preferred this over the Clendenen. |
