9/18/2023 - biggie Likes this wine: 91 pointsRoot Day - Pop and pour for evaluation. Light lemon coloured in glass. Evocative nose emanating from the glass that can be noted from almost a metre away. Nose shows jalepeno, gooseberry, saline, and light citrus. On the palate the acidity is medium plus and it’s medium bodied. The palate flavours are round but sharp edged with gooseberry, citrus, salinity, light jalepeno and basil. The finish carries the jalepeno, salinity and gooseberry. Very different from the NZ style and is excellent in it’s own right. |

Earthy tertiary notes on the nose with spice, vanilla, cherry, red fruit, maybe some strawberry. Becoming jammy. All promising. On the palate the body is med(+), intensity pronounced, high acidity and med(fine) tannin. A long finish, carried by acidity and a disappointing slight bitterness. Needs drinking imho, so lucky me! |

5/13/2023 - Wine Diplomats Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis comes from a few parcels on their El Maiten vineyard which have a cooler microclimate, so it’s the last of their Sauvignon Blanc to be harvested. Granite soils. Mostly from Clon 1 Davis vines with 10% of Clon 107. The former giving it structure and body while the latter gives it more citrus and herbal notes. Around 30% of the bunches are destemmed, which helps give it an earthy component. Fermented in stainless steel and used barrels. 7 months of battonage (lees stirring). 80% stainless steel and 20% used barrels. |
