6/29/2023 - Wine Diplomats Likes this wine: 90 pointsA medium-sized but fairly common label in Chile, Santa Ema has been around since the early 20th century and was started by an Italian immigrant whose family still controls the winery. 100% Marselan. Aged 14 months in French oak barrels (35% new). The nose shows a lot of sweet baking spices, mocha mixed with some savory spice notes and ripe dark berry fruit. The palate leans more towards red fruit, is medium bodied and round with no hard edges. Nose reminds me more of a modern Cab blend while the color and texture remind me more of Grenache. Modern, but there’s good acidity. |
