3/11/2024 - Sauvyfan Likes this wine: 94 pointsStill one of the finest examples of Napa Valley Zinfandel. This particular bottling, the Eastern Exposures, has always been one of my favorites. I find it much more feminine stylistically than their other offerings. Maybe its the morning sun. High-toned fruit, beautifully perfumed, light weight, but with plenty of length on the finish. |

2/4/2024 - buckeye76 Likes this wine: 94 pointsDeep purple color. Black cherries and strawberries with hints of floral and spice in the nose. Black cherries and black raspberries with mineral notes in the flavor. A rich, elegant zinfandel, very well balanced, great depth and structure, complex, medium to full bodied and a long rich flavorful finish. The Storybook Reserve is consistently one of our favorite zinfandels. Unfortunately, this was our last bottle of the 2012 though I wish I had another to drink in three or four more years just to taste the resulting wine. |

2/3/2024 - mattym19 Likes this wine: 93 pointsSuper low expectations based on the look of the bottle but once again the universe shows us why we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. This juice is killer. Rollin’ right out of the gate, no decant needed. Nose is a bit shy but it’s got sweet and fresh red berries, brambles, forest floor, savory mushroom and a hint of soy sauce, worn fine leather. Very compelling with really nice complexity. Palate is still juicy (!) with strawberry, raspberry, grape leaf, gravel, a little crushed graphite, tons of acidity—way more than I would expect from Zinfandel—and a medium, almost light body. Tannins totally gone. Are we sure this is Zinfandel? Either way I love it. Shouldn’t expect anything less from something born in 1985 I guess ; ) |

10/24/2023 - Wine_Poobah Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark, ripe and jammy aroma - blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, and some alcohol. Ripe black fruit flavor with some vanilla and oak influence too. Rich. Reasonably well balanced and well integrated for a big ripe Zin. |

A lot of dark fruit coming through. To our relatively novice palettes, it seemed a bit harsh at first. Was better later in the meal. |

8/12/2023 - Jake112380 Likes this wine: 90 pointsOn day 2 here. Stored overnight on the countertop at about 71 degrees. Good fruit character and definitey jammy, though less so than last night. Slickness comes through a bit more, ending with some fruit on the finish. This could cellar a while longer, but drinking well now (better with some air). |

7/29/2023 - winespine Likes this wine: 94 pointsZin doesn't get much better than this. What a terrific bottle from one the best Zin producers anywhere. It's at a great spot in its drinking window with no signs of fading. Enjoyed this at the cottage with top sirloin burgers on the last Saturday in July. What a pairing! Didn't decant it, just a one hour slow ox. This is everything we want in a Cali Zin - blackberries, baking spice, beautifully integrated oak, lots of acidity, elegant, delicious. We actually bought this specific vintage from the winery at a memorable tasting/tour in 2013. We walked these vineyards and as the name says, the vineyards get a lot of sun from the east and southeast. The scenic views are some of the best in Napa Valley, looking toward Mt. St. Helena. |

7/26/2023 - WineJunkieWest Likes this wine: 89 pointsSmooth, some spice and fruit forward. Served with a savory Tuscan chicken with sundried tomatoes, basil. onions. mushrooms, spinach, parmesan, garlic and cream. The zinfandel lacked enough acidity to be a great match and came off a little one note with more sweetness than I like. I still enjoyed the wine. Wrong food probably better with BBQ or TriTip. |
