The colour is bright red, the nose is an abundance of freshly crushed wild strawberries. Light-bodied with bright red berries, medium plus acidity and fine grained tannins. Despite its lightness the has a lovely grip and sits perfectly on the palate. Fresh, juicy and utterly charming.

Lafarge’s Passetoutgrain is a 50/50 blend of Gamay and PN grapes from 100 year old vines.
The nose is fresh and aromatic with sweet red berries and a hint of pepper. Quite light on the palate, bright red fruit with some sweetness, high acidity and a delicate tannin bite at the end. Very pleasant

Medium ruby. Lightly perfumed, with crushed raspberries, orange peel, and faint herbal notes.

Very light on the palate with the acidity in the front seat at first. However with some air, the fruit opens up and balances out the acidity very well. Bright red fruit, smooth tannins, ending in a long and juicy aftertaste. The overall sensation is a fresh and clean wine with great energy. Lovely

The color is pale brick.
Developed nose with rose hip, leather and smoke.
Medium body but still quite light on the palate. Smooth mature fruit with some sweetness, medium acidity. The tannins are ripe and well integrated, but still quite chewy so this should be paired with some hearty food. All in all a well balanced and very good wine, and - I would say - close to its peak. I paid NOK 355 / EUR 35 in 2017, which is en excellent price for this level of quality👌🏻

Deep ruby. Generous nose filled with freshly crushed raspberries and wild strawberries. Lovely pinot perfume! Light and fresh on the palate with bright red fruit and initially quite forward acidity. However the fruit element evolves with some air and after an hour it steps up and balances out the acidity in a very nice way. Light and polished tannins give the wine a good grip and structure.

Compared to the Chevillon/Radio Coteau comparison I posted recently, I would say that the nose on this one is fruitier and more welcoming than Chevillon (i.e. leaning more towards the US) however the palate is tight and precise as you could expect from a good Burgundy wine. It does not have the earthy notes of the NsG though, but neither the complexity. But at less than half the price of a 1er Chevillon, this is an excellent buy

Bright copper color with plenty of small bubbles. Fresh and primary nose with only a hint of brioche. Light and elegant on the palate, bright fruit, small bubbles, bone dry, high acidity. Sits very well in the mouth and the aftertaste goes on forever. This is pure class

2016 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières

1/15/2023 - RuneW Likes this wine: 93 points

US and Burgundy Pinot Noir head to head: 2016 La Neblina from Radio-Coteau versus 2016 Les Perrières 1er Cru from Domaine Chevillon (NsG)

Two highly regarded producers, with the Frenchman costing some 50% more than the American.

Served semi-blind, meaning that we knew which wines we were having, but not in which glass they were served. 3/4 of the company were regular wine lovers, and not nearly as nerdy as me😊

The difference between the two was striking, and spotted by everyone. On the nose, La Neblina offered rich and ripe red fruit, generous and open armed, while Les Perrières was more restrained and precise. Where the Neblina fruit was sunny, Perrières was earthy.

It was the same with the palate. La Neblina again generous and charming versus Les Perrières tighter and more distinguished appearance - if that makes any sense. Good acidity in both of them, so Neblina did not go overboard, but again Perrières was more precise and tight.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Perrières is a higher quality wine, but what you actually prefer to drink is a matter of taste preferences. And price, of course. I’m happy to have both

12/3/2022 - RuneW Likes this wine: 90 points

Generous and perfumed nose with loads of crushed berries and a hint of orange peel. A bit smokey in the beginning, but this quickly blew off.

On the palate the wine is medium weight, with youthful red fruit and a bit of spice. Bright acidity, fine-grained and ripe tannins. Smooth and well balanced with a very good grip. Compared with my notes from 2.5 years ago, the wine has taken on both complexity and depth. These are so good upon release, but apparently a few years in the cellar or cabinet make them even better. Very very good

The color is pale ruby and brilliant. Lifted and perfumed nose with cherries, red roses and almond. Clean and refreshing as cold winter air.

On the palate the wine is light and elegant, with bright red fruit and a tingling acidity. The tannins are definitely there, but they appear ripe and pleasant, offering a perfect grip towards the end of the curve. A juicy, fresh and delicious wine with great intensity. Bravo!

2014 Roagna Barbaresco Pajè

12/31/2021 - RuneW Likes this wine: 94 points

The nose is clean with medium intensity. The first sniff reveals fresh bright fruit and red roses, with some earthier notes underneath and a faint hint of camphor and steel.

Very light on the palate but still with an incredible intensity. Bright red fruit, salivating acidity and tight but polished tannins. The aftertaste is juicy and goes on forever.

The 2014 Pajè has the fruit elegance of a top notch Chambolle, but the tannins leave no doubt that this is a Nebbiolo. Incredibly elegant and well structured,; this is pure class👌🏻👌🏻Superb match with game bird and risotto.

1/2/2022 - RuneW Likes this wine: 91 points

The color is deep ruby with faintest hint of brick at the edges. The nose is quite open, with darkish fruit at the front and forest floor and orange peel lurking in the back. The Pinot perfume is not there at first but shows up after some time in the glass. Also on the palate, the fruit is on the darker side with some earthy elements to it. The acidity is quite dominant at first, but it falls more into place as the wine gets a few breaths of air. The tannins are smooth but noticable, giving the wine an overall feel of structure. During the evening this evolves into a beautiful and complex wine,  although the style is leaning more towards the rustic than the elegant side.

2009 Flavio Roddolo Barbera d'Alba Superiore Bricco Appiani

1/2/2022 - RuneW Likes this wine: 91 points

The colour is dark ruby with a dense core. Complex and seductive aromas of darker ripe fruit mixed with spices, menthol and cinnamon. On the palate the wine is medium weight, with ripe fruit and the same elements as indicated by the nose. Acidity is medium, the tannins are smooth and the long finish is juicy and spicy. Superbly balanced. The wine evolves with time in the glass, offering new sensory experiences with each sniff.

The level of complexity that Flavio extracts from an ‘everyday’ grape as the Barbera is just astonishing. Another magical bottle from Il Maestro

Deep red with hint of garnet. Pronounced nose with sour cherries, roses and leather. On the palate, the wine leans towards full bodied with rich dark fruit (sweet cherries and plum), a vibrant acidity and drying tannins at the end. Great length. A concentrated and packed wine offering lots of drinking pleasure. I’d be hard pressed to single out this one as a Langhe and not a Barolo in a blind tasting. Well done👌🏻

Nice bright ruby color. A bit smoky on the nose initially, but this disappears with air. Enter a lovely Pinot perfume with bright red berries, with traces of orange peel and spices. On the palate the wine is light and juicy with fresh bright fruit and a medium acidity. Fine grained tannins carry the wine into a long and lingering aftertaste where the spices and orange peel stay on the palate for a long time. Delicious, and much better than the bottle I had 4 years ago

Fairly generous nose with dark berries, spices and a hint of earth. Medium weight, excellent fruit quality, a bit peppery, well balanced acidity and polished tannins. All in all a classy and very pleasant wine, which went very well with grilled chicken breast served on homemade tagliatelle, aspargus and blue cheese sauce, topped with crispy chicken skin.

The colour is pale red. The nose is primary and expressive, dominated by bright red berries, roses and orange peel. Absolutely stunning😍. Tasting the wine, I’m struck by its incredible lightness. It’s almost as it has no weight, but the fruit is definitely there, lifted and complemented by a vivid acidity. The tannins are super polished and provide an ever so lightly grip at the end. It’s straight up delicious, elegant and pure like  the finest Burgundians. And yes - most tasting notes I’ve read on this wine point to Chambolle.

Perfect cork without saturation. The colour is deep red towards purple with a hint of brick at the rim. Generous and complex nose with dark ripe fruit, coffe, leather and marzipan. On the palate, the wine is fullbodied with dark and ripe fruit and a meaty texture. Well-balanced acidity. Tannins are smooth but still with a good grip. Overall a very well balanced wine with lots of flavours and a great structure. The tertiary characters have arrived, but this will probably stay at this level for many years still.

100% Barbera from vines planted in the Arborina hillside in 1948. 3 to 4 days of maceration in rotary fermentors, followed by 18 months of ageing in French barriques.

If the price tag doesn't tell you that this is a serious Barbera, the colour and bouquet do. Deep purple and dense, it's a far cry from your average day to day Barbera juice. Pronounced nose with dark sweet fruit, mocca, iron and wood spice. On the palate, the wine is full bodied with dark ripe fruit, a mellow and pleasant acidity and super smooth tannins. The aftertaste is long and juicy. This is pure velvet, and as complex as a Barbera wine can get. Simply stunning😍

Pale red with a dense core. The nose is perfumed and generous with loads of fresh cherries and roses and a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate the wine is medium weight with fresh red fruit on the top and darker fruits lurking underneath. Vivid acidity as you’d expect from a Nebbiolo, with well-defined and drying tannins in the finish. This is a structured and lovely wine, full of life and energy. Very primary atm, look forward to see how the remaining two bottles develop with time. Trediberri did very well with the 2016s!

The colour is deep ruby. The nose is somewhat modest, with dark berries, orange peel, pepper and a hint of forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium weight with elegant red fruit with a good grip and a medium plus acidity. Quite a structured finish with fine-grained tannins. Although very good, you get the feeling there’s a lot more energy and complexity hiding behind the veil - and what you are offered now is only a peak. Wait a few years.
