100% Barbera from vines planted in the Arborina hillside in 1948. 3 to 4 days of maceration in rotary fermentors, followed by 18 months of ageing in French barriques.
If the price tag doesn't tell you that this is a serious Barbera, the colour and bouquet do. Deep purple and dense, it's a far cry from your average day to day Barbera juice. Pronounced nose with dark sweet fruit, mocca, iron and wood spice. On the palate, the wine is full bodied with dark ripe fruit, a mellow and pleasant acidity and super smooth tannins. The aftertaste is long and juicy. This is pure velvet, and as complex as a Barbera wine can get. Simply stunning😍

Young, and needs much more bottle age. Will improve vastly with 7 more years. Though young, it was enjoyable, but tight and very primary with lots of black fruit and tar. Allowed several hours of half bottle decanted and left the other half to sit for 30 hours. The first night the decated version didn't evolve much. The next day the bottle was not recognizably the same as so many more subltle spices popped up. It was much more balanced, softer and really enjoyable. Elio knows what he's doing depite the oak. The dregs were also delicious and it was from them that I could really tast new French oak. Overall the oak was not very present. It was excellently balanced. Organic and non-interventionalist these wines are excellent.
