Initially it was full of matchstick reduction, but after a short while it sort of fell apart. There was plenty of acidity in the wine, but somehow it lacked the tension to support the ripe fruit and oakiness. Considering the price, I'd rather buy something else. |

It’s my first time trying them, but the shopkeeper at Rieslinghaus Bernkastel has been very insistent on pushing it the last few visits. |

To me it lacked a bit of the tension I'd usually expect from Rully, reminding me more of a Macon-something than Rully. It was frankly a little too much for me to be enjoyable, so I recorked and saved the last 1/3rd two days in the fridge. Even at 14,5% the wine has plenty of zippy acidity, freshness, and isn’t even vulgar or alcoholic. It’s quite aromatic, and as it opens up, the intensity is almost too much without food. This should age really well, and I’ll pick up another bottle or two. |

Like many other 2020s, this wine shows a fairly dark, purplish hue in the glass, and the same impression carries over to the nose, which is fairly dark fruited. On the palate the wine exhibits more freshness than expected, and is actually rather bright in its fruit profile, even if there's also a bit of tannic dry extract to it. |

That being said, it’s fairly ripe, which is to be expected for GC Chablis in 2020, but it took some air to show it. There’s a great chalky presence, plenty of acidity, but the wine is too young now. Keep until 2030 before cracking them. |

As it started to come around, the nose became more floral and showed some strawberries, but it never really took on the aromatic intensity that I'd expected, and the tannic structure continued being slightly offensive for just a Langhe Nebbiolo. |
