Paired this wine with a Rabbit (first Rabbit of the 2021 hunting season with the help of a beagle named Zoey) De-boned stuffed saddle, rabbit meatballs and de-boned rabbit legs all served with dijon mustard sauce. The wine was really fantastic. Much more so than my previous trial as previously noted. Loved it. We just commented that at this price point for a Grand Cru we should buy a couple more cases. |

11/26/2020 - ILTDW Does not like this wine: 79 pointsOpened at Thanksgiving Brunch. This wine was not pleasant. Very "hot" too much alcohol. 5 tasters all agreed it was not very good. So i decanted for 3 hours, then it opened up and became drinkable. Maybe too much muscle for a Pinot. I have more in the cellar so we will test again in the future. Decanted and drank side by side with a 1979 vintage over 4-5 hours. Both were very similar. The 80 tasted smoother at first and was my favorite for the first hour or so. But then the 79 really took off. I was surprised that I really like both of these and they drank very well. No funky smells. |

8/5/2018 - ILTDW Likes this wine: 93 pointsWe took this with us to dinner at Bistro Jeanty in Yountville. Had it opened and decanted. Shared a bottle of Montrachet before diving into the Clos Du Val. Was worried about the age. The cork broke. No off aromas, smelled good. Had a taste soon after opening. First taste, lots of fruit. This wine was really interesting. As the dinner progressed it grew from a fruit forward medium finish to a very big long intense tannin finish. I liked this wine. I wish i could try it one more time. 8/5/2018 |
