2/20/2012 - pc1981 wrote: 92 pointswow, this was nothing like what I anticipated. Noticeably light concentration, very transparent in the glass. It has a subtle, herbaceous nose and a very pleasant, silky texture with a really, really good finish. I wish I had more |

2009 Rôtie Cellars Southern BlendWashington Red Rhone Blend more |
11/27/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 92 pointsThe Southern blend is very nice. A blend of 68% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre, it is dark ruby in color and exhibits a floral bouquet with blackberries, minerals, and garrigue. The Grenache comes early but does not overly dominate, and follows through with gripping tannins, complex texture, and ends with a meaty, satisfying finish. Sean Boyd is still under the radar - if you like the idea of combining new world fruit with traditional Rhone techniques, then check this guy out. |

2009 Rôtie Cellars Northern BlendWashington Syrah Blend, Syrah more |
11/27/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 90 pointsvery deep purple in color and the quality of concentration is evident in the glass. The nose is very nice, seamlessly intertwining aromas of blackberries and cherry with a a mineral earthiness, dark chocolate, and spice. On the palate there is a mineral, earthy almost wild game flavor that is really nice. The wine is young with high acidity that is intensifying the tannins and creating a dry, lean texture, but there is potential for significant improvement with 3-4 years of rest. Keep an eye on this one. |

11/22/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 87 pointsbarnyard, leathery aromas. Very ripe and unpleasantly sweet flavors dominate the palate. It is a pruney, perhaps more of a raisin-like flavor that is even more powerful at day 2. |

2005 Château Duhart-MilonPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/11/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 93 pointsIf this is the 2nd label, I can't even imagine the quality of the grand vin (nor can I afford it). Densely concentrated; aromas of earth, leather and spicy tobacco. Tannins are still pretty strong. It will age well, but I don't think it has the structure to hold up for another 15-18 years like some of the professional reviews claim. However, the wine is definitely well structured and will likely be fantastic in 5-8 years as the texture really begins to soften. |

10/28/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 82 pointsThe aromas initially tricked me into thinking this was a classic napa zinfandel - hardly the case. The wine tastes and feels like a filtered LBV off the grocery store shelf, which was not what I envisioned when I purchased an 09 zinfandel. |

7/7/2011 - pc1981 wrote: 86 pointsThe nose is a mix of sweet fruit, coffee, and chocolate. More than once it reminded me of the smells you get upon opening one of those heart-shaped boxes of chocolate that drug stores sell leading up to Valentines Day - cheap, fruity chocolate. The wine's texture was just fine for this price level - medium bodied and easy on the palate. |
