Really a privilege and a treat to drink something this old - tasting a little bit of history. Fantastic. Hard to give a rating, but according to the scale... it would have to be classed as extraordinary. |

Started drinking an hour and a half or so after opening. Beautifully complex aromas of cherries, summer fruits and the oak coming through - though all in perfect balance. The wine tasted just as impressive as the smell, with the cherries coming through strongly and a wonderful lingering aftertaste. The structure and balance of the wine were clear proof of the sheer quality of the Chateau and the terroir, despite (allegedly) being a lesser vintage. I look forward to trying others in the future. |

Hints of 'pierre a feu'. Beautiful taste, fine balance with traces of faded tannin. The flavour hangs in the mouth and leaves an aftertaste of confit red fruits. Stunning bottle, sadly the last. |

The nose was rich and powerful with earthy tones and cherries, getting more complex over time. The taste was even richer and really lasted in the mouth. This was an outstanding bottle. |

There were hints of petrol with clear honey and dried apricot too. On the palate it was delicious and quite syrupy, it coated the mouth nicely and left a fruity and floral aftertaste. It was very sweet and seemed to lack an edge of boytritis however. |

Smelt like a wet forest at first, with lots of tar and a strong gravely odour. The taste was much better than the nose with a surprisingly fresh finish. It was a real coater and the taste hung in the mouth. It kept on improving as we drank it and the nose really mellowed out to end on a faint cherry note which also showed through on the taste. |

The nose was very light however but grew as the wine warmed (it was too cold when we first started). The taste had hints of lemon, traces of honey and followed through with a nice floral taste. The wine was quite sharp at first but mellowed into a nice rounded taste and ended very soft on the palate but the flavour didn't hang too long in the mouth. This wine is enjoyable to drink now but I doubt it will keep too much longer. |

The first magnum was opened an hour and a half before first tasting and then kept developing with time. Hints of gunpowder and 'musty cave' at first but they mellowed. The wine really coated the mouth and gave a beautiful fruity aftertaste of blackberries and raspberries, with a slight sourness that made the mouth salivate. |

11/7/2009 - premiercrew wrote: 90 pointsThis wine is an excellent example of a quality Beaune 1er cru. The nose was rich and full of interesting hints of wood, dark forest fruits and 'pisse de chat'. The wine coated the mouth beautifully and had a very fruity taste of blackcurrant. This was the third bottle drank in a few months, all were of the same quality. A personal favourite for its flavour and character, very good now but will keep for a good while too. |

11/7/2009 - premiercrew wrote: 86 pointsVery nice nose, even straight after opening. Classic pinot smell, clearly from the northern end of the Cote D'Or. Musty and rich aromas - the taste was very clear and crisp with great fruity tones, cherries and a bit of sourness too. Great salivating rush after swallowing with quite a long aftertaste. Still young - one to keep for a bit but still very good now. |

11/7/2009 - premiercrew wrote: 89 pointsStrong nose of wood and wet leaves after opening - mellowed after decanting and sitting for 3 or 4 hours. The wine kept quite a strong nose, the wet leaves smell turned into a more fruity aroma - almost jammy. The taste was rich and coated the mouth well. This was a very enjoyable wine, tasty and balanced. |

11/7/2009 - premiercrew wrote: 94 pointsFruity nose immediately after opening, quite a hint of ash. Two hours later (after decanting) it was much more settled and had really opened up. Surprisingly fruity - red berries. Bit of a minty hint too and quite a smell of rubber. Taste was great and really followed up on the nose of berries, quite light. The wine improved with time, we finished the magnum about 5 hours after opening. Altogether a very enjoyable and interesting wine. |
