2010 Château Langoa Barton

Note in progress
Straight out of the bottle, the 2010 Langoa shows a nose of red and black cherry, cedar, rose, and moist black earth. This is still working on eating its oak and though that process is mostly complete, it will be quite a long wait for the tannins to mellow. The finish here is intensely cedary. This is a slow-burning Langoa which will takes a couple of decades to really show what it’s capable of doing.

2019 Château Cos d'Estournel

The 2019 Cos d'Estournel emerges after only a few minutes in the glass, Falstaffian - jolly and round, brimming with grape preserves, plum, pomegranate, freshened by a graphite mineral edge. As round as this is in the mouth, its acidity maintains an enticing drinkability. I don't think this will take particularly long to drink with pleasure, but its symmetry and stuffing should also allow for a long life. 95-96

2020 Château Cos d'Estournel

As soon as the cork is pulled, the '20 Cos shows a reticent but characterful nose of boysenberry, pomegranate, and plum with a slightly spicy edge, gaining and astonishing aromatic generosity, voluptuous bordering on corpulent with an hour of air yet never becoming top-heavy. Very cool and intense in the 2020 way, dry extract and plenty of tannin but with the acid to match. By 12 hours, the pomegranate coming tot he fore with an exotic spice element and shaved pencil. Finishing well. Muscled and fat simultaneously, like a sumo wrestler. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 13.5% ABV on the bottle.
95-96, drinking from around age 25
