DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/19/2024-3/20/2024 (Beaune): Walkaround tasting with producers. I have never seen/ tasted wine from this producer previously. They started in 2018 when they started making wine from these vineyards in Brochon that had been been sold to negociants. Fully destemmed, showing pure and rich black fruits with a meaty note. Large scaled for its level, slightly firm right now, but very good potential for its level.

Pronounced red fruit on the nose along with spice. Very approachable with a tannic structure that holds the wine for a good length. Spice and fruit on the palate. Nice bottle!

Tortochot est un vin de patience .

Le style Tortochot constitue, en quelque sorte, une version exacerbée de la tradition épicée de Gevrey.
Pour un 2014, un millésime qui n'est pas réputé pour sa concentration en rouge, le fruit montre toutefois une belle intensité, et la concentration est tout aussi satisfaisante.
La finale de clou de girofle souligne bien l'ensemble pour en prolonger la longueur.

Non je n'ai pas été déçu.

Maintenant, ça se vend > 100$.
J'ai baissé les bra$ cette année pour la bourgogne...

I'm not a fan of the warm & acid-poor '18 Burgundy vintage in generel.
When re-tasting this lieu-dit G-C from negoce house Chãteau de Chardon, the fruit is more aggregated, but the usual magical Burgundy crispness is still missing!
👁 Ruby red.
👃 Ripe Gevrey bouquet; dark cherries, sweet licorice, sour soil & composted wood from the forest floor.
👅 Fruit-driven, but "flat" texture, a bit trivial actually.
Only medium acidity, slightly candied, rather short finish.
🎯 An okay glass, but I would like more freshness, energy & concentration.
Drink or sell!

A shy nose. There are red fruits, earth and subtle spice box. Fresh and dry palate, good fine nuances. Simple. Medium-bodied, just lacking the silkiness of the best crus. Just somewhat hollow in the finish.

This benefitted from a decant. Aroma - initial was classic G-C, but added a lot more after a couple hours. Very strong cinnamon spice, just a hint of fruit is left in the aroma. Extremely concentrated deep red fruit flavor profile. Pretty smooth mouth feel - but the tannins have some bite. The finish actually should be called a finale. A sophisticated note that is completely cleansing and of satisfactorily length - actually short but highly intense. This complements the flavor well.

Il l'a fait encore une fois !
La richesse, les épices , et tout ça dans un Gevrey bien proportionné.
Équilibre impeccable en ce moment.

Encore une fois , quel dommage que ces vins ne soient plus du tout abordables.

Ce 2013 coûtait 53$, le 2020 coûte maintenant 103$ ...
100% d'inflation en 7 ans !

Violacé, presque noir.

Fruit intense et imposant, bordé par une finale de poivre noir qui allonge le propos.
Riche pour un 2013.

Il peut très certainement prendre encore une année ou deux, mais étant sur son plateau,
pourquoi le faire attendre et ne pas profiter de son maximum ?

Un vin surprenant, se boit bien, rien ne cloche, du fruit en masse, les tannins se sont calmés un peu depuis quelques années, très typé Gevrey et très bien surtout au prix payé à l’époque. 90-91

Surprisingly good wine for the price paid at the time especially, nice fruit, the tannins are now silkier, good balance, still Gevrey like in character.

Learned something about Code d'Or wines (vis-a-vis Cote de Beaune) from this wine, in part because of its simplicity. Curious to see how the other 2010 Tortochots I rolled the dice on will turn out.

A follow up note. After a night open in the refrigerator, this wine had become very simple, not unpleasant, but just a mindless tipple, and i figured, okay, drink up. The third day, surprisingly, it became interesting, showing depth with cherry fruit and freshly assertive acidity. So ... hold? I'm reminded that my first bottle of this, on release, showed really impressive fruit several days after opening.

Ce Gevrey évolue très bien.

Son fond poivré et épicé se marie bien avec son fruit, sur la prune.
Il montre une intensité plutôt imposante,
malgré le millésime qui fut souvent modeste en bourgogne rouge.

Beau Gevrey, pas particulièrement subtil et un peu rustique, mais solide et bien nourri.

Plenty of youthful fruit and good acidity here. No need to search and search for something green everyone thinks you need to find in a 2004 (I think a lot of people convince themselves it has to be there because that’s what they read about “all of the’04s”). None here. A genuinely good wine but not great.
