2019 Saint Cosme Côtes du RhôneSyrah more |
7/7/2021 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 91 pointsAnother wine where the price leads consumers to downgrade its rating, and shrink their appreciation for its quality. This is a $13 bottle of wine that outperforms many wines at 3x its price. Rich, blackberry liqueur and pastille aromas rise from the glass. This is sappy, with fresh baked pie fruits (no aggressive spice). The structural profile is dense as this Cote Du Rhone is made from 100% syrah; but it still has the impression of Southern Rhone heat. Balanced, with soft tannins and fresh acidity. Buy a case of every new vintage (we're talking $150 here) and thank me later. Decant for 45 min on opening. 6 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2/20/2021 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 90 pointsFinally a WT Vintners bottle that shows more than dark muted fruit and iron! This had spiced fruit and pepper quality that I thoroughly enjoyed, with excellent acid to back it up. |

2/11/2021 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 92 pointsFirst things first: this wine is perfumed. I could practically smell it from 5 feet away in the glass. It's very pale, almost nebbiolo in hue. Wild herbs, white pepper, and tarter red fruits dominates the nose. Imagine smelling sliced pomegranates & cherries sitting in your herb garden. On the palate the wine is lively with crystalline acidity, but excellent balance. |

1/19/2021 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 91 pointsAnyone that rates this lower than 90 is fooling themselves. This wine has consistently proven to be one of the greatest value bottles in the entire U.S. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

1/15/2021 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 89 pointsBright green apple flesh with petrol and beeswax. Lime-like citrus aroma on the nose but not to the level of Clare Valley or Australian examples. There's some premature oxidation here, which explains the translucent golden color even at only 2 years old. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

11/1/2020 - markd.shipley wrote: 88 pointsExtremely young. Will settle out with time but afraid there is far too much oak and extraction on this to begin with. Noticing an over extraction trend with Delille. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

8/16/2020 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 95 pointsIncredibly rich and spiced. The age on this has fully integrated the oak and ripe fruits to the point of total balance. Finish is long and lush with warm red and black berries. |

2018 Harrington Mourvèdre Sumu Kaw VineyardEl Dorado County more |
8/18/2020 - markd.shipley Likes this wine: 90 pointsAwesome new world expression of mourvedre! This wine is rich, rustic, and savory. The color is a dark, murky ruby with purple reflections towards the rim. Those nose has well developed, ripe fruits on the black cherry & charred plum spectrum. There's some gorgeous black pepper on the nose as well, with an iron-like/bloody mineral quality as well. The palate is richly textured with soft, almost imperceptible tannins. There's that savory quality again with plenty of fruit and acid to keep the wine alive for 4-5 years to come. Relatively unknown wine, but very delicious. |

7/23/2020 - markd.shipley wrote: 92 pointsVery precise white burgundy with rich notes of lemon curd, yellow apple, barrel toast, and cream. Compared to the Crochette this has less barrel influence for me, and a more linear minerality. Confused about the other ratings on this wine. Compared to $100+ white burgs, this is a steal. |

6/10/2020 - markd.shipley Does not like this wine: 85 pointsNose and palate are completely out of wack. You get stewed plums and dark cherry on the aroma and then the palate is grainy, salty, and altogether unbalanced with no fruit |

5/2/2020 - markd.shipley wrote: 88 pointsGrainy tannins and a scorched mineral impression. Definitely bloody and earthy, as Cornas can be relative to the elegance of Cote Rotie. Didnt have a lot of character though for me. Looking forward to aging and seeing if it comes into its own. |

5/15/2020 - markd.shipley wrote: 91 pointsLOVE the eucalyptus note on this cabernet. Would highly recommend this wine for individuals that want to know how Australian cabernet distinguishes itself. Margaret River typically has more pyrazine notes (thinking Vasse Felix) but this had a great fruit set with medium + length to the finish |
