La Crema Pinot Noir is based in Sonoma County, but they make several Pinots from grapes from the Monterey and Sonoma regions of California. And they recently introduced a new one from Willamette Valley in Oregon. But we didn’t review the new one. Instead, we sampled their Monterey Pinot, which is one of their older offerings.

The color of this La Crema Pinot Noir Willamette Valley is much truer to what you’d expect from a California Pinot. It is translucent and garnet red in color. The aroma of La Crema is very earthy. It smells almost untamed and has a subtle skunk note that’s hard to ignore. Many wine lovers actually prefer this quality in a wine, which is called animal or savauge in France. The La Crema doesn’t have much fruit in its aroma.

Pale yellow hue. Aromas of apple, cream, minerals, peach, vanilla. Medium body and plus acid. A little astringent, but with a refreshing finish. An otherwise solid California chardonnay.

Very fruity and with a hint to spice. It is young so tastes similar to a Gamay. Tannins are very mild, to non existent.

Great wine to start off the evening before going on to heavier Barolos. A fun wine.

Brick red in complexion with aromas of oak, vanilla, raspberry, cherry and pepper. Light to medium body, characterized by medium low acidity and well integrated tannins. An easy drinking Pinot that isn’t overly complicated but has a smooth finish. Drink now or can last for a few years.

Faintly funky nose that was otherwise very on variety. Palate is light and fruity, with hints of cranberry, lingonberry, holly bush, pine needle.

Very drinkable and perfectly fine for what it is. Paired well with pork tenderloin.

Retail $23. Black cherry kool-aid on the nose. A bit thin on the palate but the black cherry really comes through. Nicely rounded-out finish. Fair QPR. Good 85-87 Points.

Diluted gold color, almost clear. Quite a tropical nose in scent though dull. Palate is not as good, rough mid palate. Not much on the front end, some heat on the back end. Very dim fruit.

Darker than a typical pinot in color. Nose is the best part with cherry/strawberry with supportive carrot notes. Palate--no structure or tanning to speak of, acid forward. The most subtle wisp of fruit. The mid palate is indeed the best because it has the most typicity. The back end is quite a bitter smear with the front end quite watery. Really no character to it of any kind but not offensive. Paid $22 for it which I think is a fair price. CT average of $33 is quite pricey with other entry level options from far superior wineries better in every respect.

Medium garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, blueberries & raspberries with overtones of floral notes & spices, earthy/dusty, herbs, minerals & a slight hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, blueberries & strawberries with spices, herbs, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing but has some limited potential for further development with an additional aging.
