A great example of a style of French Chardonnay that you just do not find in the New World. Flowers, mint, and citrus in a delightful and enticing nose. The mouthfeel is incredibly caressing and smooth, anchored by a lemon oil taste. Yet the finish is resolutely dry. Tastes much younger than its chronological age of 10 years. |

8/15/2016 - Mossrose wrote: 94 pointsLight yellow color. Lemon citrus and floral aromas. Oil smooth in the mouth with light butter, clean lemon acidity, and lemon zest. The swallow releases an afterburner spike of penetrating acidity, a mouth coating texture, and a final finish that is dry. Superb with fish, crab, shrimp, and most amazingly of all, even a grilled and bloody lamb chop. Overall, a powerful and concentrated Chardonnay agelessly heading into its second decade. |

2/24/2017 - Mossrose wrote: 94 pointsA textbook case of how French Chardonnay can decisively outpunch most American Chardonnays. At 12 years old, only light yellow with zero browning. Strong and effusive aromas of lemon and flowers. Superb lightly buttered texture, concentrated lemon citrus, vivid and refreshing acidity. Clear coats the entire mouth, which is the key to an endless aftertaste. |

6/8/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 93 pointsEvery year I drink another bottle of this very fine White Burgundy, I experience a flashing moment of fear that this older chardonnay might finally be getting too old. But no, the first sip is refreshing, vivid, and lively thanks to the wonderful combination of palette cleansing and coating acidity, lemon juice and zest, followed by a caressing texture with touches of vanilla and butter. |

8/3/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 95 pointsThis 13 year old bottle is the best ever from the full case I bought. A great example of how amazingly ageworthy Chardonnay can be from the Burgundy region of France. A translucent and pretty light amber color. Nose filling aromas of lemon citrus plus secondary flavors of flowers and zest scrapings. Very gently caressing texture in the mouth shares the stage with lively and vivid acidity. The swallow is the crowning glory of this wine with a powerful spike of great acid bite and concentrated fruit, that manages to walk the tight rope of being both palette cleansing and mouth coating. Overall, vigorous, delightful, rich, integrated, and completely satisfying. |

10/9/2018 - Mossrose wrote: 94 pointsOne of our top drinking, go-to anytime wines in our cellar. Lively acidity, great clarity of flavors, delightful texture that is rich and rounded, delicious lemon lime citrus fruit, and an everlasting finish. Unsurpassed with fish and superb with a wide range of foods. Never a disappointing bottle even through 13 years old. A benchmark for why Burgundy is rightly world famous for its Chardonnay, and impressive testimony for how great French Chardonnay can still be affordable. |

6/29/2019 - Mossrose wrote: 92 pointsThis 14 year old Chardonnay is pale yellow, with citric aromas. The mouth is lively, cleansing, refreshing, and smoothly textured. But at 92 points it is my lowest scoring bottle, with a relative lack of richness and complexity. Most likely this reflects bottle variation, given the consistency of all earlier tastings, including one year back. |

6/17/2023 - Bathtub58 Likes this wine: 92 pointsDecanted/consumed over 1 hour. Started to open a bit after one hour. Light hay in color with a faint green hue. Light-moderate flavors of citrus and orchard fruits, with a hint of caramel. Moderate complexity/finish. Elegant. Lots of acidity. Young. Drinkable now, but best several years down the road with some clear upside. A step up above the 2016. |

7/21/1989 - MicklethePickle Likes this wine: 90 pointsWith MPL at his house. Pale straw color. Assertive flowery nose with well-integrated oak. On the palate, a full-bodied wine with great depth. Brings tears to my eyes. Tight, tart, lean citrusy flavors, this is quite a good young wine. Green apple predominates. Moderately oaky with a note of complexity in mid-palate. Nicely balanced, with plenty of acid. Very good now, it should only improve with a little bottle age. Good vanillin finish. 5-11-6-8: 90/100. |

1/11/2023 - sergio19 Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe area from which this wine comes is now synonymous with Guffens Heyen. The producer who made it world famous. The grapes for this wine come from the Chavigne vineyard, and have been highly selected. Golden yellow in the glass, the wine caresses the nose with sharpness and minerals. White flowers and ripe fruit overpower the aromas. Peach and apricot, cantaloupe melon. Incredible structure in the mouth with surprising acidity. Notes of yellow fruit on the palate accompany a pummeling mentality that anticipates a long, enveloping finish. |

3/28/2023 - acyso wrote: 90 pointsHeater week; 3/26/2023-4/3/2023 (Chicago, IL): Shows a fair bit of oak and reduction on the nose, but the good ol' Fourrier shake gets rid of most of that, and yields a more put-together wine, where the acidity and minerality comes more to the forefront. The weight is very much Guffens and this is an archetypal example of the wines from the estate. |

More to the liquor side (St. Germain?), and not too chalky or linear. This bottle is in great shape and I would suggest to investigate one if you had multiples. |
