Reductive and mineral, flint and smoke, wet stone. Good amount of stone fruits, some creamy note, oak infused sweetness and toastiness. Bit of honey too. Fine, zesty and energetic. 13.5% Diam 30.

Decanted/consumed over 1 hour. Started to open a bit after one hour. Light hay in color with a faint green hue. Light-moderate flavors of citrus and orchard fruits, with a hint of caramel. Moderate complexity/finish. Elegant. Lots of acidity. Young. Drinkable now, but best several years down the road with some clear upside. A step up above the 2016.

Heater week; 3/26/2023-4/3/2023 (Chicago, IL): Shows a fair bit of oak and reduction on the nose, but the good ol' Fourrier shake gets rid of most of that, and yields a more put-together wine, where the acidity and minerality comes more to the forefront. The weight is very much Guffens and this is an archetypal example of the wines from the estate.

Wines with porchetta (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. A little reductive and showing a bit of oak as well. I actually thought this was a little wooly and was thinking some sort of post-modern chenin like Guiberteau, but this wasn't reductive enough to be Guiberteau. Chardonnay was the second guess, but I didn't find this had the weight for me to put it in the Mâcon. In hindsight, relatively lean for a Guffens wine.

My first from Guffens-Heynen after some intriguing write ups. 2020 white burgundy continues to impress.
Very young and tightly wound, but already packed with character, and strong signs of a promising future. Orchard fruit, flint, a bit of oak, with a well-balanced backbone of acid. Perhaps slightly thin on the finish but I expect to change with future integration. Quite pleasurable today but can’t wait to see what this will do with lots more time.
