Rare Wine dinner, Woodside, Ca. Rich red color. Pretty nose of rosé pedals, cherries; very Chambolle-like. Fresh, fruit-driven and amazing balance - the red cherry fruit is primary with a long finish with a light acid and little tannins.

Rare Wine Company Dinner, Woodside, CA. - clean and young; bright red color and green pepper nose, meat, with a touch of black tea. Light and airy mouthfeel...waves of acid and fruit across your palate. Finishes with very small, sweet tannins and an impressive acid backbone.

Rare wine dinner in Woodside, CA - black olives, grilled meat, mineral/stones on the nose. A bit of bricking in the glass. Impressive balance, energy, and length to the mouthfeel and finish. Long, lean, and a great amount of energy in this wine with chunky, tannins in the mid/back palate.

Very complex, and still primary, nose of Chinese black sauce and a dark color. More minerality than the '88 La Tache, but I worry there is a little sharpness to the taste I didn't get in the '88. Overall, it seems more complex than the '88, but will it match or beat the '88 in 10 years?

Nose is beautiful - Chinese allspice and black sauce...very loosely wound. Fourth feel is light, complex, and amazingly long - secondary, tobacco, flavors come through. WOTN, but I think the '98 La Tache will eclipse it in 10 years.

Amazing nose - juice-forward...regal, sweet red fruit, light wood, and a very light cinnamon spice on the wonderful nose. The taste is forward and fruit comes first. Wood next and the finish is a bit light and a little dry/acidic.

Green apple, acid, and chalk on the nose; long fine finish on the palate too. I have always enjoyed this wine an am happy to see it evolve slowly. Strong wood influence, but enough acid to eat it as time passes. Impressive!

Light wood Bouchard nose. Round and a bit tropical...yellow mango and round, fleshy style showing the warm year and I think they picked late. Good, not great.

Nose shows oak...needs more time to unwind and eat the wood. Let's pray the premox stays away as it ages. Nose shows lush fruit and a late picking approach to a lean year. On the palate, I get oak, and round red apple flavors. Solid finish without the depth or regal complexity I found in the '99 Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet.

wood still present on the nose when the first glass was poured. That blew off after 30 minutes and primary fruit comes to the front - boysenberry, cranberry, green leaves, white flower, and linen; a feminine nose filled with energy. The taste is mostly front palate at this stage in it's development, but the balance is impressive and the flavors are very clean. The flavors run front-to-back with a light mouthfeel and lingering taste for 30+ seconds...an impressive Clos St Denis that is very young now - want to try it in 10 years time!

Third bottle's the charm - wow. But at 3X the bottle price due to two others showing premox, the good bottle better be rocking. Light straw color and an oily weight and texture. White flowers, green apple, and a touch of popcorn (I mean that lovingly) on the nose. This wine is still opening up and blossoming with depth and wonderful acidity that carries the finish for over 45 seconds...a wow wine when you get a clean bottle! 95+

Clean bottle from original wood box - cork shows a history of good care. Cherry/purple red color; deep and clear without any bricking. Expressive, masculine, Bonnes Mares nose that smells of cherries, wood, moss, and soil, no bret problems here. Good energy and a big mid-palate and a long finish; not heavy, but solid flavors come through with mpressive spine/acidity and dusty tannins are alive and well. Overall a very enjoyable Bonnes Mares that's drinking well now - with this balance and acid, I would expect it to age gracefully for several years to come. 92+ points.

Amazing; this wine is fresh, clean, and very much alive. Rich color - violet red with a slight rust color on the edges. Smelling this wine reminds me why we want to let the Grand Crus live a long life before pouring them into a glass...stunning nose full of red flowers, cherries, and asian spices. Clean, light, cherry taste with a tartness and acid that leads up to a mind-blowing finish...wow, this was stored right and wonderful to enjoy at age 45!
