Winery Note:

2006 Russian River Valley Syrah

Like its older sibling, the 2005 Russian River Valley Syrah, this wine comes entirely from the Parsons' Ranch on Wood Road. "Wood Road?" you say. Isn't that old-vine zin country? Indeed it is but syrah excels in this cool climate as well. Composed of 68% clone 174 and 32% clone 877, 25% whole cluster was employed to accentuate the spice and black olive qualities of the fruit. Thirty-three percent new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Dark ruby-garnet. Gorgeous aromas of blackberry, crème de cassis, and spring flowers meet the nose. On the palate, flavors of blackberry and herbs. Full-bodied but with refreshing tannins on the finish. While enjoyable now, additional complexity should develop with bottle age. Drink 2009-2016.
