2009 Massican Annia

See wine details

From Producer's Website http://www.massican.com):

annia is a white wine blend of tocai friulano, ribolla gialla and chardonnay. the grapes for this wine were harvested in september 2009 from three distinct vineyards in napa valley. the tocai is dry farmed and the vines are sixty three years old. ribolla cuttings came from a famed vineyard in friuli and are the only known planting in america. the chardonnay is the muscat clone from a small vineyard in carneros. the young wines of annia were all fermented independently in new and used french oak and stainless steel barrels. the wine was blended on february 15, bottled on march 5, 2010 and 238 cases were produced.

annia is the wine that conceptually launched the brand. inspired by the blended wines from Italy's Friuli region, our napa valley white wine achieves subtle, aromatic layers with the intriguing uniqueness of tocai hitting the initial high notes, chardonnay bringing you back to familiarity and the ribolla finishing the wine with a broad, structured foundation. the soft and delicate nose is distinct and fragrant but reserved. the wine follows on the palate with more linear focus blending the clean, floral characteristics of the tocai and ribolla with the fresh, citric acidity of the chardonnay. the wine has unusual length for its lack of alcohol, registering at only 12.8%; this is a result of the piquant acidity that was developed during the mild growing season.
